Where is the First Port of Call When You Realise You Have Hair Loss

I can see I am losing my hair like my brothers.
Where should I go first to see how I can slow it down?

I live in the UK but I do not want to waste the NHS time with this.

Where do I start? What kind of specialist should I see?
How do I know they are not going to rip me off?

    Help help help!

Don't bother with a specialist. I used to use a London-based hair loss clinic and all they did was provide me with minoxidil, finasteride and the occasional head massage. For hundreds of pounds a year. And they won't supply any experimental treatments, some of which, like RU58841, are worth using.

To begin with, you need to try the big 3:
    - A shampoo containing ketoconazole, such as revita or regenepure (blocks DHT, preventing hair loss).
    - Something containing minoxidil, the key example is Regaine/ Rogaine (encourages hair growth).
    - Finasteride (blocks DHT, preventing hair loss).

Somebody else can probably explain in more detail but trust me, you probably don't need to consult a specialist. Forums like these have discussed and critiqued every treatment under the sun.

      Thanks for this.

Should I go to a private dermotologist for advice?
Would they offer any information that I could not get here?

If money isn't an issue, you could do. The advantage they have over us lot is that they can examine your hair and scalp and recommend treatment accordingly, as well as aid you in determining whether you are making progress or not. However, I recon they'll just suggest the same treatments I mentioned earlier.

          Thanks for replying.
I enquired about seeing a demotologist but it is way too expensive.

I have a couple more questions.
I am at the early stages of losing my hair. I do not want to use fin.
Is Minoxidil enough to hold back the tide on its own if I use it consistantly??

Do the shampoos you suggested have side effects?

          Thanks again
