Have been using Proscar 1mg a day for 2 months and my hairline is receeding at the same rate as before. It may be too early to expect results but does Proscar necessarily work for everyone? Is it the case that, for a select few, finasteride has no effect?
Does fin necessarily work for everyone?

Give it more time...and in that time try and get a DHT test to make sure your levels are low -
Yes there is a small percentage that are non-responders. This could be either that your hairloss is too strong and lowering DHT 50-70% is still not enough to stop it, or it could be based on your genotype finasteride cannot inhibit your 5ar and therefore has no/limited effect on lowering your DHT.

Sorry man I have no idea...probably have to go to your doc or endocrinologist/urologist..It's often a hard test to get done and requires some sort of prostate/hormone problem for a doctor to order
Give proscar some more time, and if it aint working consider dutComment

That's what sucks about hair loss treatments, none of them work for everybody. I expect that to also be the case with anything new that may come out. For some they may work great, others it may work decently, while for the unlucky few it might not work at all.Comment

Yeah it might not work which seems odd to me because I am pretty convinced androgens basically completely cause MPB almost solely. MPB is a completely and totally androgen controlled problem. Yes there is plenty more going on, but its after androgens trigger it all. The problems are there is something with receptors, our current AAs are too weak, or something like that causing some men to keep going bald.
I see very reasonable evidence in real life that makes me think androgens really are huge and its not diet or exercise or anything else ignorant people want to pawn off as causes for the unknownComment

Hello Plan C,
2 months is way too early to know what it may do for you.
Stay on it and do NOT obsess over it.
Take it as you would take daily multivitamins..
Take it and then forget about it .
Prior to my prescribed use of it,my own doctor had stated,
ALL of his patients that he has prescribed Finasteride to (for hair loss)
have gotten results.
Some very MINOR-some very MAJOR. None had experienced any major side effects either.
Patience is key. I have been on it now for almost 8 months
(1mg per day)and I see results happening.
Hang in there Plan C , take the med and do not focus on it.
Cheers.Comment

I can feel hair there, but sadly too many people have independently reminded me im thinning. .I'm scared to make the confirmation myself.Comment

I'm the same way. I haven't looked at my hair close up in over a year. What's the use? It will just bum me out and make me feel like crap all day. There's nothing else I can do about it, so why bother?Comment

I'm becoming a damn recluse, I play guitar, haven't gigged for 5 years. Old band want me to help them out and do some date's. .Thanks to hairloss I'd rather stay at home.Comment

Yeah I'm on Fin, it wasn't until after I started Fin that my hair became worse. Within about three months or so of starting it the hair on top became thinner. In certain lighting I can now see my scalp. It's turned me into one of those guys who go everywhere with a hat on.Comment

It's really hard to say. I went to see my doc about the fact that it seemed that my hair thinned out once I started it and he basically said that for all we know I could have lost more hair if I wasn't on it- implying that I could have all of a sudden had an aggressive instance of hair loss directly after starting the drug and Fin could have helped to slow it down in some way. As I said, I haven't looked at my hair too closely since I started to thin out (post Fin), but I don't think my hair has gotten any worse after that first shed, so I guess that is something because that was almost two years ago.Comment
