What can I do if I develop side effects from Finasteride?

I'm thinking about starting Finasteride. Aside from a receded hairline, I have thick, coarse, short hair that I style and always looks good. However, my crown is a little thinner than other places, but it is not noticeable unless I put it under bright lighting. If that progress, I'm going to try to get a prescription for Fin and if I can't I'll be ordering proscar online.

    I'm 18.

I've read about many side effects of this drug.

Most don't seem serious. Lower libido? That would be a good thing.

But I have read about testicles/penis shrinking and complete LOSS of libido, as well as erectile dysfunction. As well as weaker orgasms. And as we have all heard, some of these can be permanent.

I know the chances are low. But if I started to develop some of the serious side effects, what courses of action could I take to combat them?

For example if I develop persistent side effects, are there other medications/treatments to combat things like complete loss of libido and junk shrinkage?

I know this all sounds silly, I'm just trying to think positive and know my options.

I'd appreciate any answers or opinions.

I doubt you would get any side effects, you are young full of libido and have lots of DHT. Finasteride reduces DHT by about 70%, for young guys like me and you that 30% is still a lot of DHT, it can pretty much keep everything going. I'm 17.5 yrs and started Fin about a 25 days ago and hardly any side effects at all, on the first day or two I had a fluttery feeling in the pelvic area( due to prostate getting smaller ) but it quickly went away. I suggest you start with small dosage and work you way up. You will also probably have to urinate more often(atleast I do) because finasteride makes prostate smaller.

    This is how I started:

    24/07/13 ~00 Hours 0.25mg
    27/07/13 ~58 Hours 0.25mg
    29/07/13 ~38 Hours 0.25mg
    30/07/13 ~22 Hours 0.25mg
    31/07/13 ~24 Hours 0.5mg
    After that 1mg every day

      Stop taking it.

Slowly tapering up to the required dose of any medication is almost always a very good idea.
