Can you mix Finasteride with water?

Hi,

Do you guys (or one of the Doctors) know if finasteride can be mixed with water?

The reason I ask is that I was prescribed 5 mg (for hair loss) and told to take one-fourth of a tablet per day. The problem is that one brand the pharmacy had was small and oblong and very hard to break into four equal pieces. I then found a plastic bottle with markings for four equal measurements so I would fill the bottle with water to the top line, put in one pill, let it dissolve, shake it up later and then swig one-fourth of the liquid per day. Someone told me that finasteride is not supposed to be exposed to water and that I was probably just wasting my money.

Does anyone else take the finasteride this way? Also, is there a 1 mg finasteride tablet available yet or will there be soon?

It doesn't matter if the pieces are uneven. Just do the best you can. Keep it simple, mixing with water is not a good idea.

1mg finasteride is much more expensive.

Don't MIX it with water. you can take it with water.

I'm sure it's OK to take your pill with a sip of water but what I've been doing is mixing one 5 mg pill in a 4-ounce bottle and drinking one ounce per day. Somebody told me I shouldn't dissolve the pill in water the way I'm doing.

Please don't dissolve it in water. Dude, just cut the pills into 1/4 and take them normally. Why do people overthink this stuff?????????? Some swear that EOD is as good as ED, others swear that microdosing is as good as regular dosing, another guy is convinced that you have to dissolve the pill in your mouth, another one brushes his teeth with finasteride....

If the pills were round, there would be no problem at all breaking it into 4 pieces but they are tiny and oblong shaped and when I use the pill splitter, I end up with maybe two actual pieces and the rest is just pill dust or crushed up pieces. If I ask the pharmacy for the round pills, they say they are out of that brand right now.

Either buy a different pill cutter or do it more carefully. Having uneven sized pills is not a big deal really.

I used to dissolve mine in water. I don't think it had any negative effect. They dissolve it in alcohol for topicals so I'm pretty sure it can stand up to a little h2o.

I used to have those oblong 5mg pills - I don't get what the problem is, I used to cut them into fifths every week.

Here's my suggestion - sharpen your knife!! They cut perfectly fine. It doesn't have to be exactly equal.
