Thanks for your reply. Is there hair stuck to the flakes? Here's my yield from the teeth of a wide tooth comb (just now)

No hair stuck to them but I had to pull it up along all the hairs as the hair grew through the skin. So the flake had a bunch of holes all over. I suppose if you had really oily skin and weak miniaturizing hair it might just come loose along with the flake.

The work was performed by a reputable company (Farjo).
Should I book an appointment with a dermatologist?
        barry77,

Yes the grafts are firmly in place at six months post-op. The hair you are seeing is no doubt just shed hair. Has your situation improved any or did you see a derm?

Thanks for your reply. I really hope that is the case. It's been very distressing combing what appears to be grafts out of my hair after spending most of 2010 in hiding. (And having also sold my car to fund the work).

Situation not improved. Am meeting with Farjo on the 25th of this month.

              barry77,

I took a closer look at the pic you provided and do not see any "follicles" within the dead tissue. They look like crusts. Let us know how your appointment goes on the 25th. If you have health insurance, a visit to a local derm for a diagnoses may be very well covered. You can always call your health plan before you make the appointment. Wish you the best.

                I have the same problem

Hi, I have almost the exact same issue as you. I've actually had it for years. Sometimes its worse, and I'll get the strands of hair lumped in with some skin just like you (primarily on my crown). If I don't wash my hair for 24 hours, the build up gets worse, so I think it has something to do with the juices (for lack of a better term) that my scalp is producing.

I can tell you this: If the hairs I pulled out didn't grow back, I would be MUCH balder than I am. So it can't be removing the entire folicle. Thought, it can't be helping with the general thinning of the follicle.

I'm really curious to hear what ends up working for you. I see the same things in my comb and in my fingers (b/c I have to pick at them to get them off my scalp). If I don't pick them, they get almost scab like and would look rediculous.

Thanks for your reply bluhr. Did the problem you're describing only start after having a transplant?

My issues started before I had a transplant. I use toppik so that may be contributing. But I stopped using topic for almost two months after my transplant and I still had the issue. The only thing that works for me is Nizoral shampoo. But even when using Nizoral I have the problem. I've had the issue for probably 5 years. Been to some doctors, but nobody can find a fix, And I'm so pessimistic about finding. Doctor that can solve it that I've basically given up. That's why I'm interested in following your story.

I had the same problem for years

I had the same problem for years until I went to a new place for a haircut. The lady told me I had dandruff which I already knew, after she was done she got a brush and started brushing my scalp somewhat in an agressive manner in order to remove all the flakes from my scalp. She told me to do it one or two more times after that in the shower, so I did and after that it was gone. I also changed my shampoo's and started using one with 2% Ketoconazole 3 times per week. Ketoconazole is the same active ingredient in Nizoral although I am not sure what the concentration for Nizoral is, if it is say 5% maybe you should use it only twice per week and then once per week. Any ways, I was always afraid to scrub the skin because I thought it could damage the hairs, but now I regularly do it and find it helpful. Also the Rogaine foam doesn't give me as much flakes as the liquid. When I am not using the keto 2% shampoo I use Hair Cycle shampoo and the Shwarkspoff Celluplex Thicker Fuller Hair and they are great. Hope this helps.

Try brushing in the shower with a new regular toothbrush. I did it because I wasn't able to find the same brush the lady had done the scrubbing with. Anyways, it will help you get rid of the dead skin, remember to combine it with some keto to maintain the dandruff out.

Thanks for the replies chaps. My concern is that the flakes (clumps) of scalp and hair are the transplanted hairs falling out. This would suck majorly after having spent thousands and thousands and thousands of pounds (and hiding during the long recovery period).

Have you spoken to the person/company that performed the work? Would be interested to hear what they would put it down to. If it started before they touched your head I'd imagine that would absolve them from any blame.

So you are saying that what is falling out are the transplanted grafts?
I think those should have fallen by the first month...Didn't they told you to massage the crusts until they fell off and then that with the applications of minoxidil about 70% of the grafts should fall? Don't worry, the idiot that performed my firts hts never told me either.
Look if it was done at a reputable clinic the worst that could happen is it will take longer for the grafts to grow or they might not grow(worst case scenario). But still I would recommend you to have it checked by a pro. If you are in Europe you should make an appointment with one fo the top doctors (Bisanga, De Reys, Mwamba, Feriduni, Devroye, etc) and see what they tell you.

Barry77, the 25th (Jan) has been and gone, so what did the Farjo clinic say?

hang on in there and good luck.
