FUE surgery before ever using minoxidil

    Hi all,
I jumped on finasteride a couple of months ago and have never taken Minoxidil
I know this is not a normal way to do things. Im 45 and have the typical vertex thinning spot and receding temples. Decided to bite the bullet and go for a transplant. I havent had any finasteride sides but I plan to use Minoxidil foam also.
How long should I wait to get on it before my trasplant? The clinic said that I need 800 for the temples and 1600 grafts for the vertex.
Im gonna go for the full shaven FUE so the doctor can harvest from a wider area
Im quite nervous as you may expect. Ive never even shaved my head before

    Hi Dustin,

You can start on Minoxidil foam once your scabs have fallen off usually 10-14 days post surgery. Any respectable clinic should give you a fully detailed plan of after care where all your post op care should be fully explained.

All the best for your surgery.

    Kindest Regards

would it be a problem though if I started minoxidil only AFTER my surgery and not before? i know most people take it first and then transplant later

No issues with you starting Minoxidil only after your surgery, this is how it is prescribed by many senior doctors.

Ok thanks! But will minoxidil damage the transplanted hair? I worry about the newly planted hairs

No, the Minoxidil will increase the blood flow in your scalp therefore providing valuable nutrients to your newly transplanted grafts to aid in their survival and their future growth. It is recommended by the majority of decent surgeons in their patient after care plans.

There is no need to worry. Furthermore it is best to start the Minoxidil once your crusts have fallen out 10-14 days post surgery.

Dr Bhatti actually recommends a 2% solution for the first 2 weeks and then patients move onto the 5% solution.

Again I hope that clarifies everything for you .

But will the implanted hair also shed from minoxidil or just the regular non transplanted hair?
