Can telogen effluvium effect transplanted hair?

    Hello,

Its been an year since i have had HT (FUT 2000 grafts) and i had an amazing result within 5 months of the transplant. After 1 year my result looked extremely good and i was really happy how the results have come out.

4 months ago i stopped taking finasteride 1mg after taking it for 10 years. I have had periods where i skipped the medication for a couple of months or more but not a drastic change in my hairline recession or density of the scalp.

2 months ago i noticed a massive thinning and initially i thought it was the hair around transplanted hair, but i feel i have lost at least 30- 40 percent of the volume in just two weeks or literally overnight. Now my scalp is extremely thin in the front where i can see the skin and overall volume feels much lower than what it was two months ago.

I am back on fin 1m and rogine since the last 40 days and nothing has improved but i definitely don't experience any shedding.

    Medical condition

I have had prolonged periods of high stress and anxiety the entire last year.

    Questions:
    • I feel the transplanted fell out during this shed and i wanted to know if this is a case of Telogen effluvium?.
    • Or could this be from stopping finasteride for a couple of months?

      Pictures:
First picture was taken on Jan 24 where my results peaked.
      2nd pictures is taken yesterday
Last pick is a comparison from 6th month result to current for the area that has been transplanted.

I would really appreciate any expert opinion on this. I have posted comparison pictures above on how my density declined in a couple of weeks. Trying to figure out if this is telogen effluvium or AGA.

Finasteride is a handbrake on hairloss. Unfortunately if you come off it, there's no telling how quickly you'll roll down that hill. Seen cases where guys have gone on to gradually lose more of their native hair and in some cases the native hair has thinned out really quickly.

I think what is obvious is that you should not have stopped taking fin. That most likely contributed to your big shed but combined with having a stressful year, the two issues have hit you hard. All you can do at this point is maintain with your regimen and hope it comes back.
