successful HT, happy with results, scared of FINASTERIDE, advice needed

I have just recently completed (2 days ago)my first HT at 45 years old of about 5000 grafts.
Im happy so far, but I was very disappointed that they prescribed Topical Finasteride.
I have used propecia in the past for about 6 years and while the side effects (decreased libido, slight gynecomastia) are not very pronounced they are still there.

They said that the topical home-brew version which I gladly bought from their clinic does not have the oral side effects, but Im very scared to use it.
There are whole online communities which are dedicated to educate people about the long term dangers of that drug.

I had a pretty good donor area and the procedure pretty much covered the majority of the balding scalp.
Im thinking of doing everything natural post op, through diet and exercise with no drugs if possible.
Any thoughts, experiences, comments would be a great help.

Many get on well with the meds long term. I appreciate if you do not want to take the med long term though. The topical version might well be the best option for you if not willing to continue with the oral. Its believed to help prevent hair loss with fewer associated sides in people who are susceptible to the oral meds sides.

Otherwise you are essentially rolling the dice as hair loss is progressive and after investing in such a HT holding onto as much native hair as possible is only going to help benefit things overall long term.
