Going bald after a hairline restoration procedure

I am currently saving up for my first and probably only hair transplant. I am well aware that almost everybody will require a second procedure at some point to restore further loss or to continue to add density to their first procedure. However, I am in a situation where I honestly believe I will only be able to afford a one off transplant as I have other financial commitments that take priority. My goal is to just salvaged a few more years of my youth as I am now approach 30.

Anyway my question is has anyone had experience where they have restored their hair line as a young adult but then eventually had to shave it down due to further loss? Does it look absolutely ridiculous and do you have to then take a razor to the whole thing in order to hide it or can you get away with a number 1? I am trying to envision how I would look at 50 with a hairline but nothing behind it lol. Thanks for any input guys.
