There is presently no generic Propecia (1mg finasteride). There is generic Proscar (5mg finasteride). Theoretically, generic and brand medications should be the same. There have been a few scandals in the past involving generic medication companies, but none recently. The one place you do not want to order medications from is “over the internet”. There was a study looking at certain medications (Propecia, Viagra, Cialis, etc.) order over the internet, many to the so-called Canadian pharmacies. Over 80% of the medications that were received turned out not to be the medication.

As high as 80 percent?
That would explain why it has not worked for me.
How can i tell that what i have bought is fake? And if it is fake how can i do something about it?

Thanks for your time.

I agree with Dr. McAndrews they should be the same. That is a long as you are getting them from U.S. pharmacies. Medications ordered over the internet that come form foreign countries are not regulated by the FDA. Hopefully the patent on Propecia will run out soon and other companies can start making generic Finesteride 1mg. Remember saving a few bucks may not be worth it if you have no idea what is really in these cheaper medications.

I bought Finasteride online like a dummy about 2 mos ago, presently my hair is really thinning in the front (where I have my problem). Any idea when propecia will have a generic?
