    Bimatoprost Study (11/14/2012)

Not terribly exciting, in my opinion, but, here it is:

Yeah this is the paper I've mentioned a couple of times recently. I think it is pretty exciting. They have shown that bimatoprost affects scalp follicles as well as eyelashes.

That is good news given what it does to eyelashes!

The work is not in-vivo in human beings. As far as I'm concerned, this leaves the results rather uninteresting.

That's because this is only one part of a two part study. The clinical trial is to test effects in vivo, this study is confirm the mechanism of action which they can't really do in vivo. The exciting part here is they have confirmed that scalp follicles are susceptible to the hair growing mechanism that results in longer eyelashes.

It basically proves that bim will grow hair. The trials will tell us how much it can grow and whether it's enough to be cosmetically significant. As you said, the in vivo results will be the acid test.

Yes, but this already was shown in macaques.

I know latanoprost was tested in macaques, was bim also?

Still a good step, animal models don't always translate to humans. As countless mouse studies have shown us! :/

No, it indeed was latanoprost, but these are very similar drugs.

Anyway, I think my point was, I'd like to see trials of either of these agents, using human beings.

                Yeah they are very similar.

Clinical trial results for bim should be available soon... How much they choose to tell us about them remains to be seen.
