I am considering Dr Wasserbauer in Walnut Creek to do a hair restoration procedure. She seems very good but I would appreciate any member feedback. Dr Kabaker in Oakland is another possibility. Any thoughts on his work? I am very interested in any opinions as soon as possible.

Welcome to the forum! Dr. Wasserbauer has an excellent reputation and she’s one of the most ethical, stand up physicians in the field today. I’m really impressed by her on several levels. To my knowledge Dr. Kabaker also has a very good reputation, but is better known for his female hairline lowering techniques, as well as reconstructive scalp surgery.

Thank you, Spencer and very kind of you to reply so quickly. Your comments are very reassuring. I just want to be sure that I have found a highly skilled and ethical surgeon and it sounds as if I have. What an anxiety producing process! It is a good thing you have this forum. When I had called Rassman's office (with whom she trained) they were nice but stingy with their information. Their vague reply had me wondering but I feel encouraged now. Much appreciated.

No problem Kirby. So what’s your hair loss situation like? How long have you been dealing with hair loss and how long have you been considering surgery?

Well, I am 55 years old. I have been taking Propecia pretty much since it came onto the market. I believe that has forestalled significant hair loss everywhere but my temples and front area which have been steadily marching in reverse. Not bad though and my donor area is very good. I first started thinking about hair restoration in my early forties. Bosley, at that time, seemed to be the only game in town. I decided against it. As time progressed and hair regressed, I again began to look into the state of the art. The blogs and the information are mind numbing. It has been challenging to zero in on who really does know what they are doing. Your site has been very useful. The excerpt from Oprah with Dr. Oz -- for whom I have a great deal of respect -- was enlightening and his imprimatur gave me confidence. The scary part is that there appears to be competing authorities and opinions everywhere. It is a great challenge to know which way to turn. And then there are the horror stories...Added to that is my own hesitation (shared by many others I am sure) to "ask around" . Dr Wasserbauer, I know, is a relative new comer. But her training and reviews seem very solid and it is, in part, her fresh approach and her accessibility that I appreciate. Bottom line, though, is the all-important technique. I am scheduled for the procedure this month. I value your input on this matter. What threw me off today a bit was the reticence of Dr Rassman's office to comment about her or give her a referral. Although I do plan to do a "drive by" to Kabaker's office tomorrow, I am feeling confident again about my selection of Dr Wasserbauer. My wife thinks that I have analyzed this to death.

I suggest you do consults with Hasson and Wong in Vancouver, and Dr. Gabel in Oregon before deciding on a particular clinic/doctor.

Never let travel deter you from choosing an excellent doctor that can meet and exceed your needs.

You can do virtual consults with these clinics before doing the actual surgery.
