I am not sure but I thought finasteride was banned by a lot of sports organizations since it masks the use of steroids, so I don't think footballers can receive treatments other than minox?

I've read of footballers who are on it, and I don't believe it's banned. Also, I don't see how fin would mask the use of steroids. It's only used by bodybuilders and weight-lifters to counter-act and prevent some potential side effects of having high test levels.

Finasteride was banned for all professional athletes world wide since it was thought to mask anabolic steroids in the system. There was a big controversy when New Zealand tennis player Mark Nielson was banned from the game for two years and basically lost his international ranking. The World Anti Doping Agency has since taken it off its list of banned drugs after discovering that it does not mask steroid use.
