From what I understand, after you get over 1.25-1.5mg of Finasteride, there is a very very minute difference in affect(think 70% instead of 69.5% of dht inhibitance, not the actual numbers just giving an example)

5mg is overkill. You're on month 7 and you say you're shedding. That may be a good thing. WAIT until you hit a year before doing anything really drastic as it takes at least a year before you see the full affects Fin will have for you. Continue with 1 mg a day.

Can't really give you advice here man, I would personally wait a full year then go from there.

5mg daily is waaaaay overkill in my experience. let's assume for a moment that your dht levels aren't even that high to begin with (which is possible) but rather your hair follicles just happen to be very sensitive to dht--in my case this is the culprit. i know this because when i was taking 1mg daily my libido completely disappeared and i had e.d. (not fun at all)--once i backed off to .05mg things got much better. now, can i say my hair will benefit as much as if i were on 1mg daily or more? no, i can't, but i'd rather get a little benefit and not the sides. think about it.

Overdosing on medication isn't going to make your hair grow back any faster, 5mg is what they give men who actually have prostrate cancer for gods sake.

                  5mg Proscar/finasteride

Hey guys, I've never posted before but I wanted to get in on this discussion. I took 5mg Proscar for years with out any sides, and it "appeared" to be more effective than when I took 1mg Propecia, although I have really no solid evidence (DHT serum levels, etc. ) that it did.

I do have a couple of questions about the effectiveness of 5mg vs 1mg finasteride though. I've seen the graph going around that shows that finasteride decreases DHT levels around 70% for dosages of 1mg to 5mg. So it would seem that taking 5mg is no more effective. However, my understanding is that finasteride as a treatment for enlarged prostate is to lower DHT levels. So if finasteride in really no more effective at lowering DHT levels at 5mg than at 1mg ( < 2% difference ) why is 5mg the standard protocol for treatment of enlarged prostate?

Also, I've seen the studies that GSK did comparing the effectiveness of Avodart to Proscar for treatment of MPB. I notice their studies compares 5mg Proscar to different dosages of Avodart. The effects of 1mg finasteride is never cited in their study. Does this mean GSK believes the optimal dose of finasteride to treat MPB is 5mg?

                  Just curious.

Actually Proscar is NOT prescribed for the treatment of prostate cancer, it is prescribed for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), also known an enlarged prostate.

People with urinary problems can give a try to Fincar 5 mg. The medicine is effective in treating urinary problems in patients with an enlarged prostate. Its regular usage reduces the need for surgery to cure the condition completely. Fincar reduces the size of the prostate gland in men, which helps to relieve urinary symptoms such as urinary urgency, or urinary continence. The product is not for women. It should be taken under the supervision of a doctor as it may have side effects such as lumps, pain, testicular pain, or nipple discharge.
