I think that means the hair was just in the catagen phase, and has now left the head to make room for a new hair that should start to grow in 2-4 months (100 days?) something like that

I'm curious about this too. When I see shedding, it's typically just a hair with nothing and the end. However, I'm seeing a little bit of shedding around my right sideburn and temple area, and these hairs typically come out with a tiny white bulb/speck at the end. If anyone can clarify what that signifies, I'd appreciate it.

Yes I have experienced it, usually after running my hand over my crown area and mid scalp. Hopefully this means that the hairs falling are not completely done lol

You most likely are not looking at follicles at the end of the hairs you see falling out. It could possibly be a thin sheath that surrounds the follicle. Sort of like a ball park peanut that has that thin coating around the actual peanut inside the shell.

Nearly EVERY single hair I loss has the white bulb but appears thick and health otherwise. From what I've read, this is a good thing. Not having a bulb means the hair is brittle and malnourished and is breaking. The bulb means your hair is moving through natural cycles as someone else said. Google it and put your mind at ease.

Not sure exactly what that is, but it does not look like a bulb to me.

    Unhappy

I am shedding right now and all my hairs have the white bulb at then end. I've heard a lot of posters say its sebum or product or the follicle. Nobody seems to know for sure what it is or whether its a good or bad thing.

When I loose a hair there is usually a white substance at the end that can be cleaned off. The white bulb remains underneath this and cannot be wiped off or detached from the hair strand, its is a part of the hair, they are one unit.

My fear is that it means this hair is lost forever. The photo posted shows two hairs coming from this one bulb. I have experienced this also. Just yesterday I lost a long hair with another smaller and thinner one attached to the same white bulb, the smaller hair looked like it had just started to grown and maybe would have eventually replaced the other hair.

If they both have fallen out with the same white bulb attached, which is the starting point for growth from what I can see, my fear that there is no way for this hair to grow again (no starting point if you will) and that these hairs are indeed lost forever.

We need more definitive answers on this
