Default Starting Fin soon. Advice please.

I'm planning on taking half a propecia tablet every day to start with and look out cautiously for side effects.

But I'm told it's "normal" to experience them for the first couple weeks.

If I experience this how do I know that this is the normal temporary sides or if I should get off the drug quickly?

How many weeks in should I start to be concerned if the have not stopped?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Parker,

Try not enter into the meds too fearful of sides. Too many convince themselves they are going to get sides before even taking them People do/can get them and this is not disputable however i personally never had any, then agains i wasnt aware there were any. You will find if you introduce yourself gradually to the drug you will stand a better chance of avoiding them or limiting them. Many people get a little too fixated on the sides before taking the meds and this can throw the mind out a little. This is not just my opinion but a fact. I spoke to a guy the other day who felt he got sides from simply touching the coated tablet..

Consider a Transition onto the drug:

Wine and dine with the drug rather than trying to get straight into bed

Best of luck and try not be too over worried. Sides can happen and often they subside once the body has had a few weeks to get used to the new drug.

    Best

Parker, I have been on finasteride for approximately 5 years and have never had any side effects.

This drug is taken by millions and millions worldwide and the large majority get on fine.

Try it and see how you get on.

When I first started, I was having problems with my junk for the first 2 months, after that It was game on . I was still having sex with my ex during the first 2 months but I just had to focus, think dirty, and manually get it up. Now, I'm back to normal, even more hornier. Good Luck.

Just to reinforce what Spex said, I listened to an archived episode of Spencer's show the other night, and a caller was describing tapering onto Propecia by taking .25mg every other night, them .5mg at the same frequency, then .5mg nightly, then the full 1mg nightly. He'd tried going onto the full dose all at once and encountered major sides, but the tapering avoided then completely. Spencer said he'd heard this story repeated many times over and really endorsed this method. The other neat part is that, like Spex said, if you're fearful of sides, it helps you avoid psychosomatic side effects by giving your brain some reassurance--e.g., "I'm tapering on, so I'm less likely to get side effects." I definitely don't dispute that lots of Propecia users have legitimate, medication-induced side effects, but I think there are a not insubstantial number whose sides are fear/anxiety induce--especially when it comes to libido/erection. ED is really susceptible to anxiety and the power of suggestion.

I'm not on Propecia, personally, and the reason is that I'm mostly concerned about avoiding a shed--I've got this fear that I won't regrow the shed hairs (same concern with Rogaine, especially with the horror stories of it destroying hairlines). I'd love to hear whether tapering helps folks avoid a shed.

Also, can someone answer whether fin is helpful for receders with hairline-only loss? A surgeon (non-IAHRS) told me a few days ago that it doesn't have an impact on the hairline, so I wouldn't be a candidate due to my complete lack of crown/top of head/vertex thinning.

I think it's crazy to be scared of the shed with propecia, in reality you will only grow hair back. I had so much luck with fin that I wish I had taken it sooner.
