Supplementing fin with dut?
Finasteride's half life is about 6 hours. Dutasteride's is about 5 weeks. Instead of switching from fin to dut, has anyone considered continuing their fin regimen but "supplementing" it by taking an occasional dose of dutasteride? Like once a week, once every few weeks, or whatever?
I don't know if this would reduce the likelihood or severity of short and long term side effects, but given the suppression of the type I ar enzyme with dut (which does not happen with fin, at least not significantly), I've just been pondering methods that might reduce the risk for those of us who might go on the drug.

Since your chances of experiencing negative side effects from Dutasteride are greater than that of Finasteride, I honestly don't think taking both concurrently is a good idea.
Talk to your doctor about splitting your dose of Finasteride in half and taking a half dose twice a day instead of a full dose every day.
Also ask your doctor about the possible advantage of the interaction of grapefruit with Finasteride.

Tracy, what is your opinion on 0.25mg or 0.5mg dose, and not necessarily taking it every single day? Also, I can't find a doctor that specializes in hair loss in my area, is my general practitioner sufficient?

Thankyou. These sound like questions I should take to a hair loss specialist since my prescribing doctor is a gp.
gutted: I haven't had dandruff since I was a kid. Oil and itch seems to vary with how often I've been washing my hair, also how hydrated I am in general. Other things like diet might affect them but I don't keep track honestly
I don't remember if I noticed any difference in oil or itching after starting finasteride, but I have been on 2% keto shampoo for longer than Ive used fin. And 1% for awhile before that. So that might be preventing any unusual oil, itch or dandruff that fin could possibly cause.

yeah i agree...niz helps with these issues.
but in my personal opinion masking these symptoms is not a wise thing to do as its the only guage people can use to determin if fin is actually affecting them in a positive way or not.

IMO very good thing...if your not masking these symptoms with keto shampoos etc. you should notice a large decrease in hair shedding too and scalp oil/dandruff.
but watch out for the next 3/4/5 months or so....Also watch your libido.
