Default Started using Rogaine, I don't wash my hair much.

I generally only wash my hair about once a week. Do you think it's ok to be applying rogaine foam twice a day in this situation, or do you think it would be best to wash my hair more often? Incidently, I have a shaved head on "no 1" and sometimes without the gaurd.

If it's just for issues of cleanliness, then I appreciate your concern, but I'm not really bothered about that. I just want to know if the rogaine will be more effective with more frequent washing? Thanks.

OH and just one more thing, I was considering going to my GP and asking for a finasteride prescription. Do you think it's worth seeing a normal GP (I live in England), or will he just say no? Will I have to go see a special hair doctor to get a prescription or something?

Any doctor can prescribe Propecia or generic Finasteride.

It would be a good idea to start washing your hair once or twice a week with Nizoral shampoo. The active ingredient in Nizoral is a mild anti-androgen that can block DHT at the scalp.

Yes, I am already using nizoral once a week. That's all I use to wash my hair.

And I realise that any doctor CAN prescribe finasteride, but I'm thinking that not any doctor WILL prescribe it? I can just imagine him refusing because of the risk of impotency or something. Whereas from the sound of it, a hair clinic doctor would be guaranteed to prescribe if you could simply prove you are suffering pattern baldness. One of the reasons, is that my doctor is bald himself, and I imagine him having this "just go bald like I did" mentality.

I'll go and ask him, and if he refuses, then I'll just have to a specialist I suppose.

    Thanks for you reply.
