Is it safe to take anti-depressant with Propecia?

    Hi all,
I'm currently taking Propecia and Lexapro, which is a SSRI anti-depressant. Both have sexual side effects listed. I was wondering if any of the doctors know if this is an okay combination to take. Thanks.

From my understanding propecia has no drug interactions so it should be safe to take with other medications even if they both have similar side effects.

      Hey Buck,

I have taken Propecia and lexapro together for about 6 months now (I started the Propecia 6 months ago) and have had no problems with my sex life. I had a HT done 3 weeks ago and am thinking of going of the Lexapro b/c I just feel so much better about things now that I finally did something to counteract the issue that made me so damn depressed in the first place. So, I think you're fine dude, my doc friend tells me he knows of no synergistic effects associated with Lexapro.

      Best,
      Michael

No significant drug interactions have been reported with Propecia, and as such, taking both drugs will not necessarily increase the risk of sexual side effects for either drug. If you have been on the Lexapro without side effects and develop them after starting the Propecia, it is likely due to the addition of the new drug, not from the interaction of the two.
