Finesteride...
Right, I have been against taking meds for a while, but after prolonged advice to take the stuff I am willing to give it a go. I have been researching HT's for 2 months now and am getting absolutely know where with it.
I do not want Propecia as I have heard its expensive, how expensive I do not know?
Which med do I need? is it called finesteride? proscar?
And is there a legitimate site online that I can buy it from?
Thanks.

Yes Its called Proscar cut it into 1/4s. Speak to Spex he knows the best cheapest way to get it in the UK.
Also try not to think/stress too much about taking the meds the human mind is a powerful thing.
Take before pictures and take pictures in 8 months time in the same setting. I have been on Proscar for 2 years now , it took about 13 months before I noticed improvement and less shedding.
All the best

Both Propecia and Proscar are Finasteride. Propecia is 1mg Finasteride. Proscar is 5mg Finasteride.
Go have a talk with a doctor and ask for a prescription for generic 5mg Finasteride. While you are at your local pharmacy having that prescription filled, buy a pill splitter. Use the pill splitter to cut the pils into your doses.
Many men buy 5mg generic Finasteride and cut the pills into four pieces to save money. Since you are concerned about taking Finasteride, you can try cutting the 5mg pills into eight pieces instead of just four. That way you are starting off with a lower dose than Propecia would be - and saving even more money.

If your generic finasteride comes in oblong pills like mine, cutting them into equal eighths might be pretty difficult. I have a bad enough time getting equal fourths.

So I have to get a prescription from my doctor?
Can I not get a prescription from an online pharmacy?
If I start taking it now, should it stop the existing hairs I have from falling out....I ask this cos people say it takes 6-14 months to work for them and in 6-14 months you can lose a lot of hair so I am concerned that by the time meds start working my hair will have had 6-14months worth of hairloss up to the day it starts working.
Putting this simply:
1.Will meds start taking effect very quickly, saving what I have from the off. But noticeable results won't be until 6-14 months down the line?
or
2. I will suffer continued natural hairloss up to the day it decides to start showing signs of improvement?

I get 5mg proscar - they're oblong pills. I have no problem cutting them into 5 pieces (= 1mg a piece). The cuts don't have to be totally equal. It's easy and SO MUCH CHEAPER!

I don't know of a way to get a legitimate prescription on the internet. You don't necessarily need a prescription from your physician, but getting one will probably require seeing a doctor in person.
Finasteride starts inhibiting DHT very shortly after you start using it; it doesn't take 6-14 months to start helping your hair, that's just the amount of time it takes for most people to see results.
You will probably notice an accelerated shedding process at the beginning. This is normal; those hairs should grow back unless they were already extremely weakened by DHT (and therefore on their way out anyway).

Adding to what "25 going on 65" had to say:
It starts helping pretty quickly. You'll shed for the first couple weeks, but keep at it - should grow back. At the least, hair loss should halt. Hopefully, it'll also give additional new growth. Personally, I'm about 7 months in using Rogaine and propecia, and I already grown quite a bit back. I just joined and posted, check it out:

Even if your insurance won't cover it, I'm pretty sure Propecia will only cost ~$25/mo. Rogaine ~$15/mo. For side effects, very minimal for me: Itchy scalp for the first 2-3 weeks, then fine ever since. Maybe a slight decrease in sex drive... That's a hard maybe, though. Like I say, minimal.
I encourage you to go for it, man. Best of luck!
