    Default My hair situation

To start off I'm 23 years old and I'm concerned I may be losing my hair. I've been on this forum for a while but I haven't posted anything of my own before so I figured it would be a good idea to put my pictures on here as a referencing point to look back at if my hair changes in the future. I saw my doctor and he didn't think there was anything wrong but who knows. I figure if I notice any deterioration I will try to get on propecia before it's too late even though I'm well aware of side effects.

I agree with Your doctor. Nothing's wrong with Your hair. Don't have to do anything let alone put Your health at risk with propecia.

I don't think you are losing your hair. Your hairline is probably maturing. Go Google "mature hairline vs balding." if you want to be 100% sure, go see a hair transplant doctor who does macrophotography and have them look for miniaturization behind your hairline. Don't go start a lifelong drug that you probably don't need.

    Hi WashedOut,

What I see in the pictures you have provided is a natural and normal mature male hair line.

Hi guys, i am new to the board, I am 25 y/o and I am a bit concerned with my hairline too, I was thinking the same way too with WashedOut, but he is a male, so it seemed to look fine, but for a woman like me, I seem to get conscious. I don't have a pic right now, just posting my story. i am seeing a doctor now, just waiting for a schedule.

    thanks for reading.

    Hi mikabaker55623,

Make sure the doctor you see is an IAHRS member. Please don't let the fact that they are hair transplant surgeons scare you off. They know most women are not good candidates for hair transplant surgery. Here is a link to help you find one:

Here is a link to the American Hair Loss Association's pages on women's hair loss. Please take the time to read these pages. The more you know the more you will know that there is hope.

I also want to extend an invitation to you for the Women's Hair Loss Project forum. Sometimes just knowing you are not alone and texting with other women dealing with hair loss can be so helpful.

    All my best to you,

I agree with this. I wouldn't start Propecia yet - there's simply no need.

Found a picture of my juvenile hairline. I will post it here to judge how much of a difference there is between now and then. From what I can tell the corners have receded but the front is still where it was. That may be why it looks so much like a V shape.

Some people think the mature hairline is a myth, but I'm not too sure about that. It does seem like quite a few men lose their temple hair and then don't change much beyond that for decades (except maybe at a snail's pace, but even then they don't seem to have crown loss or diffuse thinning).

I think your hair looks great. You could have it checked for miniaturization behind the hairline, but going by the pictures you might not be balding at all.
If you decide to move on from here, just keep an eye on it and if it looks like you're starting the early stages of MPB, you can consider your treatment options then.

Took some new pictures of my temples. Made an outline of where my juvenile hairline was using the wrinkled brow technique. I have been seeing some vellus hairs when I run my hand through my hair which may or may not be miniaturization.

I also got a prescription for finasteride from one of my doctors for when I do want to use it. I've also been using Nizoral 1% since February twice a week and it has helped out my scalp which was always flaky, oily, irritated.
