Someone like me though? Hairline has barely budged, but there is temple recession going on just behind the hairline and general thinning all over, but not so obvious.
My "fear" is that by buzzing, the extent of the loss will become obvious to everyone - at which point I have a conundrum. If I let it grow back with any length, everyone will still know. Which means I basically have to leave it buzzed?
Bleh.
I wish this hair loss was far more clear and defined instead of "diffuse" quite honestly.
Eh, if you buzz it short enough I'm sure nobody will notice the recession.
BUT IN CASE THEY DO: That would be a perfect time to stick both middle fingers straight up in the air as high as you can. If you're gonna go bald anyway, you might as well own it! Pretty soon it's not gonna matter how long you grow your hair, they'll still notice that you're balding (in fact having long hair might even make it more obvious). If you really don't wanna do it now, that's understandable...but it's an option for ya if/when your balding progresses.

If it makes you feel better, I have a noticeable lump sticking out of the right side of my head where my shunt valve is, AND a scar on my scalp. Exposing it was what I was afraid of most as far as going bald was concerned (it was not noticeable with long hair). The ladies still love my buzzed head. Weird head shape or not, give the buzz a shot. You might be surprised.
Oh yeah, and I have macrocephaly (an enlarged head). Still looks good.

Fair play mate - gotta lot of respect for you, you've bitten the bullet and dont give a fck

I've tried buzzing my hair before. Personally, my head shape is not ideal. In my case, it didn't look great. Not terrible mind you, but definitely not great. Takes some courage though, that's for sure. Nothing you can't muster up, though. Some heads just look better buzzed, that's for sure. Up to you to try it out and see how you like it!
Also, buzzing my head in some ways made my receded hairline more noticeable, even accentuating it. It was more of an 'embracing' type of thing, if that makes any sense. Didn't serve to hide anything, really.

TBH I find it hard to believe that in the year 2012 any comment (positive or negative) about a fellow man is instantly replied with the accusation/insinuation of homo-sexuality. Please do grow up man.
Superficial? Why on earth are you on a baldness forum if the 'shallowness' of becoming bald and this affecting your physical appearance doesn't bother you?
Spiteful? Get a dictionary man. Because my post is anything but.
Spitefulness is induced by mischievous purposes, hate or jealousy. I don't see how I should feel any of these things towards another bald man. I'm just saying I think it looks ridiculous, which seems like my good right?
Hence there is a difference between finding something ridiculous and ridiculing something.
I do think long hair on a balding man looks ridiculous as much as I think a flowerpot on someone's head does, people riding a 5 man tandem or someone wearing an 70's mullet with a pornstar moustache. I'd say everyone in the world has something they think that looks stupid. If this makes me a homo-sexual, I'd say you're the one that's shallow.^^
Honestly, I hope you're one of those guys who wears their balding head long and therefor feel hugely insulted by my post. Otherwise I have absolutely no idea where you are coming from.

True...but then I'd seriously need to hit a tanning booth because I can tell my scalp is pretty darn pale and since I have black hair....asdlfkjasdlfkjasdlkf
But then again, because of the way the hair is, it might still be seen. Its basically framed by hair hehe

Here, let me simplify it:
- I don't care what people on the street look like.
- I don't care what my co-workers look like.
- I don't care what any of my friends look like.
- I don't care what my family looks like.
The only time I've given a damn about what anyone looks like is myself and my partner or potential partner. It's somewhat shallow, but naturally justified.
I'm not sure where people find the energy and time to over-analyse or poke fun at so many people's appearance, but yeah that's society for you. I think its ****ed. That's my opinion.

Ok let me me break it down for you, since you obviously haven't (intentionally?) read my previous post.
We all look at other people to decide how things reflect on ourselves and determine our own identity. We look at the clothing of guys who have the same posture and height we have so we can see what style would suit ourselves and what not. We look at the hair of people with same style we have or the same type of balding, so we can see what would look good on us or how our hair is going to evolve.
It is a common fact that once you start balding, you suddenly see a lot more bald people on the streets than you've seen before and you ussually start looking for a bald rolemodel.
And surprise surprise, for everything you think that looks good there's something you think that looks bad. For something that you think that looks cool, there's something you think that looks ridiculous.
Is this gay? Is this shallow? Not a in a billion years. It's called having an opinion and we all have them. It would shallow if you would exclude people in your life solemnly based upon their appearance, which my post makes no notion of.

My girlfriend is a pretty girl and I love her with all my heart. 2 years ago she followed the hype and dyed her hair red. Since her natural colour is blonde, she has a pale skin colour. It looked terrible on her and that is what I told her. I love her too much to have her run around with something everyone knowns looked bad and would only play in her disadvantage.
I suppose your wife can only be so lucky.

I already replied to this in my previous post.
Now you just added 'making fun of someone' to it instead of just ridiculing someone.
I think you're the one who's over-analysing a very simple unmistakable post.
If this post of mine:

There is something wrong with your state of mind.
Calling something ridiculous is not the same as ridiculing something.
Any problem you have with society is up to you.
The only intend of my post was to support people who were having doubts about shaving their heads short by noting that short bald looks way better (less ridicioulous) than long bald. It doesn't ridicule people, it doesn't make fun of people and it didn't have the intend to do either.
So I do not take any words of mine back for the 1 in a billion people who feel it was.

Yeah, that's rich coming from someone who struggles to string a sentence together:
