The actual side effect rate is less than 1%.

Stick to 1mg and give it up to 12 months to see results, it will work.

    See a dermo first though.

The OP clearly is sensitive and concerned about his hair situation and finasteride is the best drug we have at the moment to fight it.

I fully understand that he needs to know the full possible side effects of the drug, but coming straight in and saying that he will have a one in 5 chance of experiencing serious side effects isn't helping anyone! It's more than likely its just going to put him off a drug that could save his hair situation and make him feel so much more confident in himself!

I have found from reading these forums that people who start 'fear-mongering' about the drugs tend to have had a negative experience and it appears they are trying to put others off the drug. Not necessarily saying this is you.

Once again he will need to know everything about the drug before he decides to take it. But 'fear-mongering' helps no one!

Personally I have taken finasteride for 4 to 5 years and have had no side effects.

I know numerous forum members that have taken it longer than I have and are also fit and healthy.

For peace of mind, some have gone to their doctor to have themselves put through vigorous testing and have passed with flying colours.

The majority of people on the forums do take it as well as millions of others around the world.

It is very effective and if you did suffer from any side effects which is unlikely, they will go once you stop taking finasteride.

And if erection problems did ever surface, you can always take generic Viagra to compensate

Just read up about it and make your own decision.

The question every doctor should ask & ask to sign a potential finasteride user is: "Are You willing to accept the risk of developing permanent impotence and/or other serious side effects?" If a man understands the question, the risks, the stakes, if a man is willing to trade the potential of regrowing more hair for potential risk of permanent health tragedy, then the choice is clear, every man has a free will to choose as long as he understands what can happen as a result of his choice.

Fear mongering would be speaking about something without good reason. This is not what I am doing. These risks are real and they can happen. If that wasn't the case - if these risks weren't real, I'd be the first to sign up for the drug. These risks are real, FDA has upgraded the risk warnings, labels and doctors, doctors would have to clearly explain the seriousness of the risks to anyone who would be willing to try this drug.

But, if something is an only drug out there, it doesn't mean its a must and its 'either finasteride or accept your baldness' as many finasteride paid or unpaid promoters shout so loudly here and turn the truth upside down and throughout.

There are natural DHT blocking alternatives. A number of studies back up what I am saying and also.. The fact that FDA & doctors only appreciate, prescribe and promote chemical drugs and their manufacturers is not a proof that there are no alternatives and that nothing else can work as a safe alternative to finasteride.

    kavi,

There is no evidence that alternative remedies work to stop or reverse hair loss. If you want to keep and improve your hair in the long run (i.e. longer than 1-2 years), you'll need either finasteride or dutasteride.
It will probably take at least half a year before you see appreciable results. For some it takes longer than a year - up to two years in rarer cases.

Reports of side effects persisting after quitting finasteride are purely anecdotal at this point. No scientific studies have confirmed them.
It's been around for a long time and is statistically very safe.
    Good luck.

My advice is if you have any questions ask a doctor or call into the show tonight and ask Spencer. Stressedtothebald is not a md or a expert in hairloss. You can listen to last weeks show and hear Spencer talking about meds and natural remedies. He starts off every week telling us to watch out for these so called products and that there is only 2 FDA approved drugs. I will take Speners advice any day over some so called expert on a forum. Your best plan would be and talk to IAHRS approved doctors. I would love to thank Spencer and Joe for being there for the hair loss community and helping change my life for the better.

    Best wishes to all!

There is evidence and a number of studies as a proof that natural DHT inhibitors work. Also there are studies that clearly showcase the serious risks and side effects coming from finasteride. Both studies are available online, one needs not to be an expert. Its proposterous though that finasteride promoters here describe this drug as the only, proven and miracle cure while in so many ways this drugs is all things opposite. Whoever wants to trade their health for potential hair regrowth, its a free world, people jump from bridges all the time too..

There are also real doctors, MDs, who haven't put their ethics in the drawer !
Listen to what real doctor says about finasteride here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEGCTMtlgoc

"I have never prescribed it and I never will."

Stressed to the Bald, have you personally experienced any of these side effects?

The sample you have taken consists of ONE doctor with pessimistic views.

The huge majority of people are fine and lead healthy lives.

I never tried the drug, nor I will, exactly because of side effects. As I said many times before, if this drug was the answer and without serious risks, I'd be the first one to sign up. But do I need to end up impotent or have the side effects in order to have an opinion on the drug ? I'll rather be on the safe side and use alternative DHT blockers, which is exactly what I am doing right now, and I have absolutely no side effects.

Its not 1 doctor and its not 1 patient..Do I need to post 20 more clips, so my point would be considered as one of higher value or significance ? On this forum alone, go through threads and You'll see there are plenty of people who have quit the drug due to side effects or lack of results.

You keep repeating.. majority.. all right, good for them ! But what about those 5 or 10 or 20 out of 100 people who end up with side effects. What about them, its easy to say they're minority if You are doing ok, but if it happened to You, I'm sure the story would be the other way around.
