    21 years old : am I balding ?

    Hello,

I am 21 and I am really feared by alopecia because of my father's side. Indeed, let me introduce my father's side :

    - My great-grandfather was bald (I don't know how and when he began, but he was bald according to my father)
    - My grandfather began to bald early. I don't know when, but he was something like NW2a/NW3 at age 25. He died with NW6-7.
    - My dad began to bald at 18 with massive shed. At my age he had almost reached the NW2a. He is NW5a at 52.
    - His brother is bald but he went bald lately. At age 30, I remember he was ok but now

    Frightening isn't it ?
On my mother's side, they went bald but lately. My grandfather began around age 50. I don't remember my first uncle (unfortunately he died at 40... but at 30 he was ok) and the second one is something like 35-38 now and is not balding.

So that is my situation. I "don't care" (it would be not a disaster for me) to bald at 30, but I am 21...

I have attached pics (on black is my juvenile hairline but I think I have overestimated it, judging by the position of the corners on the pic of juvenile hairline) :

I have this widow peak since I was born and it has not moved. But you can see the pattern hidden by some hairs on the 2 temples (1 cm/0.4 inch deep compared to my juvenile hairline : I know it because I can see a white patch).

Is this a mature hairline of balding ?

    Thanks for replying.

    Hello,

    Here is the chart:

If this really bothers you, you should see a doctor who specializes in treating hair loss. Here is a list for you:

The International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons and its elite membership is the only hair transplant society to be recognized by Consumer Reports, Consumer's Digest and WebMD. Considered the foremost patient-centric organization in the field, IAHRS members are endorsed by The American Hair Loss Association for their support of truth in advertising, safe consumerism, and the importance of appropriate patient selection.

    Take care,

    Tracy

If I saw you out in the street I wouldn't think you were balding so your hair looks pretty good. But your family history is pretty rough so if you notice it getting any worse maybe you could seek treatment. For now it could easily be a mature hairline, just keep an eye on it.

          Hello,

I had an appointment with a derm last saturday and he confirmed that I am balding. I was prepared to it and so I cried just a little bit and it's ok now.

The problem is that he prescribed only minox 5 % to me, claiming that he prefers to wait one year to see the results of minoxidil before prescribing propecia (because of side effects). He was not a hair specialist, and I think he did not think about using both. Actually I had not insisted because I did not know the "big 3".

So I will go to another derm (hair specialist) next month to have propecia. I will ask to my generalist first to prescribe it to me, but I don't think she will prescribe it to me...

Now I have a question about Nizoral. I have read on some english websites that Nizoral is very important on the regimen, and on other websites that it is not very important. Where is the truth : is Nizoral very important or Minox+Propecia is enough ? Actually, Nizoral 1% is not on the french market anymore : just the 2% version can be bought.

I also take brewer's yeast and magnesium B6, is it useful ?

Thanks for reply. Even if I'm balding, it is good to hear that my hariline looks ok now. Actually when you're balding, you do not see you as before and think "oh god I am really bald..."). So again, thanks a lot.
