What is a mature hairline? How can you tell?

Look at your hairline. That is what a mature male hairline looks like.
Males do not get to keep their adolescent hair line. Males typically loose the hair in their temples and their hair line turns into the "M" pattern as you have there. This is one of the physical characteristics that differ between males and females.

Do you have male friends that have tdeveloped that pattern, and kept it for a long time?

Some have, some have not.
If you are worried about it, look to your male relatives on both sides of your family. This will help give you an idea if yours might progess further or not.

hard to tell, not a lot of NW6s in my family. A fair amount have kept their hair. So is the mature hairline a myth if some of your friends have continued to lose hair?

Why would you think it might be a myth? It is not a myth. It is what it is. It is very rare for a male to keep his juvinile hair line. Ethical hair transplant surgeons are not likely to re-create a juvinile hair line either - unless the patient is transgendered. The reason is because the male hair line is normal. Most males have it. Many males progress further, some males don't.
Hair loss is progressive. Just because someone is not a NW6, that does not mean they have not lost hair. Some men stop losing at NW2, some men stop losing at NW3, some men stop losing at NW4 and so on. Again, look to your male relaives. If none of your male relatives are NW6, then you are probably not going to progress to NW6. If however many of your make relatives are NW4, you are probably going to progress to NW4. See how that works?
