Question Hair transplant: need advice after a failure

    Good morning,

I am 35 years old and I have been losing my hair since I was 21.

I am considering doing a hair transplant again as I had bad surgery approximatively 10 years ago.

I am looking for advice and assessment as some doctors already refused my case and I am looking for a very competent and ethical doctor to see if it's worth doing a hair transplant again.

Do not hesitate to give me the names of very good doctors if you have some! I am in France but I will go everywhere if I need to!

In my case it seems that I have extensive hairloss (genetic baldness with a hair loss pattern thinning on Top only) and a very poor result of 2 hair transplants. My donor area seems very weak. Furthermore the scarring of my previous strip surgeries is visible.
So I am quite anxious about doing a hair transplantation again.

    Please find here some photos.

    Thanks for your comment

    Hi shiva

The problem I see with you is your donor area. Looks quiet thin. If you were to get another hair transplant it could really do damage to that area. Making it look worse than it does now. My suggestion would be to cut it as short as you can (without exposing your scar's) and go with it.

I'm not a doctor or anything. Just a guy. The best thing you can do is contact a hair loss specialist and see what they would advise.

    Hi Shiva,

I am not a doctor but it looks like you continued to loose the non-DHT resistant hair after your hair transplant. Did you use any medications such as Propecia and/or Rogaine to try to preserve the non-DHT resistant hair that you had?

Here is a link to a locator page to help you find an doctor who is an IAHRS member closest to you.

My best to you. Take care,

Dr. Woods has a good reputation for being ethical, but I personally think his work is just OK. He’s also very expensive and in Australia, so I think you can probably do better researching some of the doctors who do FUE on the IAHRS, if FUE is the way you want to go. Since you seem to have defuse hair loss, it’s difficult to say if you would still be a candidate for strip surgery.

    Shiva,

Start propecia if you haven't all ready. If you’re worried about sides start by cutting the pill in half and take 0.5 mg's. Let your body adjust to the drug and if so move up to 1 mg per day. Monitor your progress. It takes time to work and don't worry shedding is normal.

Because of your weak donor I would look into Gho's Hasci clinic (Netherlands). Do some research and make your own mind up! But I believe his treatment works and he can regrow donor. Also keep positive hopefully new treatments are on the horizon.

    Best,

Ask Dr. Cole, he is here on the forum and is one of the rare surgeons who dedicates enough time to actually talk with people here, regarding both transplant procedures and wider issues. I like him because he pays attention to details, has honest & professional approach, plus he mainly does FUE. If I ever save up some money for a transplant, I believe he'd be the first person to talk to.
