Cool Hair Transplant Scheduled for December 10th...& now...VERY NERVOUS!!

    Hi Guys,

Finally scheduled my transplant for the 10th of december! But I must admit to now being really nervous & second guessing the whole thing repeatedly

    Some details...

    - IAHRS doc
    - Strip method
    - 3500 planned
    - 42 yrs old.
    - All in the frontal 3rd. Some temple work. Some hairline lowering.
    - Am probably a Norwood 2 or 3
    - Am told that my donar area is really full and that the scar will not show!

    Questions I am asking myself:

    - Will people be able to tell when I return to work 3 weeks later?
    - How bad will it look during the awkward period(about 2 months in...)
    - & even though there is no family history of total baldness...would it look - really sketchy when I lose the rest of the hair?
    - & What about the scar? How bad will it look if the hair around it is gone when I'm say...60?

    Looking for advice/input...anyone? please?

if your asking for advice at this late stage then i dont think you have done enough research , if its just pre procedure nerves then i suppose thats understandable . If you name your Dr and post some pictures you may get more feedback , if you are really apprehensive ...postpone it

    hope this helps

3500 grafts to resolve NW2 for a 42 year old? That is a lot of grafts for a NW2... That even seems like a lot of grafts for a NW3... Were did your doctor put you on the Norwood scale?

    3500??

I'm a solid nw3 and I was quoted as needing 2900...Not sure but 3500 seems high to me...

Can you name the doc?...post some pics? we don't need to see your face just your head.

It may not be a super high quote. He may be in a position to have a full thick hairline transplanted. I've often heard of a fully restored frontal third getting 3000-3500. Are you going with Dr. Rahal? He tends to be more liberal with transplanting grafts to the frontal third than some.

If you continue to lose you will need another transplant. If you have another 3500 or more (which you will have by the sounds of it) you're covered donor wise in terms of pulling it off. However if you go to a nw6 you may want even more than 7000. Maybe like 9000 but nowadays some people can get 8000-9000 by strip before tapping into another 1000-2000 FUE.

Sounds like you're in a good position age wise, level of loss and donor availability. Best of luck if you go for it.

Regarding your question about whether anyone will be able to tell whether you have had a transplant 3 weeks afterwards, it is normal for the transplanted hair to fall out after the transplant and to regrow from the roots over the course of the following year. My experience after my transplant was that the transplanted hair shed during the period 21-28 days after surgery. At 28 days I doubt if anyone would have realised that I had had a transplant. Up to that time though I temporarily had some extra hair that I did not have before the op, so someone might have noticed. I had my transplant during a career break so it was not a big issue.

My scalp was a bit pinker than normal for a couple of months after the op but I doubt if many people noticed, and those who did would never have realised that the extra colour was caused by a transplant.
