400 grafts placed into sagital scalp scar with 1 year result by Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
Recently we’ve posted several FUE cases of grafts placed into scars. That seems to be a popular topic on the forum right now, so I’ll put this one up too.
This young man had a standard strip case last year and is growing in pretty well. What made his case unique though, is that his had an “s” shaped scalp scar from surgery years ago that was quite noticeable. We placed around 400 grafts into the scar at the time of the surgery and shown are intraop pictures and 1 year pictures. Although not perfect, the scar really is a lot less noticeable than before. And despite early growth in the balding areas, he did slow down a bit and I think still has more to improve, so we’ll see him in 6 months to see if any more coverage of this scar is seen. In this and a few other cases like this that we’ve done, I postulate that due to the fact we are not shaving much hair around the scar, that some grafts are getting pulled out in the early postop period by nearby hairs “sticking” to the freshly placed grafts. I can’t prove that but I do believe it happens.
