Dr. Lindsey 6months out from 2525 up front and starting to grow

This fellow came in this week for a 6 month check. He got 2525 grafts 6 months and a week ago and is a world traveller, so this was kind of surprise stop in.



He is showing some growth up front, with alot more to come, and his scar is tough to find...although at a month or so it was fairly red and I was a little worried about it.



I expect him to stop by next spring for a final set of pictures.

How do you go about working out the incisions in the recipient if the plan is to go for X FU/cm2 in one zone and Y FU/cm2 in another? I've always wondered if the doctors can just do it my eye due to experience or is it more precise than that?

There is no formula that works for everyone. For me, its all about how thick or thin the donor hairs and their roots are. We pack the front 3/8inch as tight as we can with singles. With skinny singles its more per cm than with thick wirey hair'd patients. Behind that things spread out a bit. Remember, we're not curing baldness, but rather covering hairless skin and there is a finite resource...not money, but rather donor hair.

Yes that's the real problem. An ever expanding canvas and a finite supply of paint so to speak. I've crunched the numbers before and it only really works in my view for a norwood 5 or less. Of course that's just what I'd deem satisfactory if I myself ever suffered extensive baldness. Thanks for the reply.

It does depend on both your own tastes...frontal hairline and facial framing without much behind it "works" for some people but not all. Also, really thick coarse hair, even in limited supplies, gives pretty good coverage as compared to really thin hairs. And lastly, the size of the head. In general, a big head may offer more donor hair even in class 6/7 than a smaller head would, but unfortunately, it usually has more skin to cover. The best case is a big donor area and a narrow balding area, even if back to class 6. Then you get more coverage longitudinally, without having to spread out horizontally.
