medication and hair transplant.
so, i get that when you have a hair transplant you need to keep taking medication to stop the non-transplanted hair from falling out.
however, i read that finasteride wears off after say... 10 years.
does that mean, once the medication stops working, mpb will start up again and any hair loss that was going to happen will happen... and you'd need more transplants?

Good question. I'd like to know the answer too.

Propecia won't generally stop working or wear off. It will still block dht, but the results may plateau or diminish over time. Every person will respond differantly. Some will get a few years maintenance and regrowth, followed by somewhat of a decline, yet others still maintain the same results they had when starting the drug (1998 is probably the earliest). If things get worse Minoxidil can be considered as an adjunct therapy. Dare I say it, one could even consider laser therapy. The last one is the least proven so proceed with caution. I use all three and feel each play a positive role to varying degrees. However, even conservative estimates relating to the arrival of new threatments (Replicel, Histogen, Aderans) are promising. I highly doubt there will be much change in 2-3 years, but 5-10 is more plausible. You will no doubt have seen these time scales shift ever further back so it is hard not to be a cynic, but there seems to be a definite shift from a business to a scientific model with regards to research and the development of treatment protocol. Either way, I think that Propecia will likley be replaced in the forseeable future as the gold standard in hair loss medication.
