    Default Too late for me!

I once had thick and great looking hair during my 20s, but now I am in my 30s and I feel like it's too late for me. Here's my story:

Sometime after I turned 30, I started to feel a bit of "air conditioning" on the top and back of my head. Fearing that a bald spot was developing, I took the following actions:

    1) I tried hair thickening shampoos - I recently started using Kronos K-Charge
volumizing shampoo. After several weeks of using this I have noticed
MUCH LESS hair fall in the shower and my hair texture feels different.
I also like L'Oreal Vive thickening shampoo. (Too bad I didn't know about
these shampoos when I was younger because they seem to work 4 me!)

    2) I stopped getting haircuts - I figured that if I let my hair grow longer that
would help make the bald spot appear less noticeable. To this day, I
have not visited a barber shop for 3 years. I just trim my hair myself
    with scissors and clippers lightly.

    3) I wore hats more often - I feel better if nobody can see my hair for
    some reason.

    4) I refused to look at the top of my head in the mirror! - I did this just
for a psychological effect. I figured that if I am AWARE of my baldness
it might put me in a state of depression, so I simply stopped looking at
the back of my head. If I don't see baldness, then it must not exist,
right?? (I mostly just looked at the sides of my hair and it looked okay
from what I could see. I swear I never peeked at my top cranium for
    a good 3 years)

Well....after living the above lifestyle I have noticed that more and more
people have been staring at the back of my head when my hat is off and
it has been bothering me like crazy. So.....two days ago, I FINALLY
decided to man up and look at my head completely in the mirror and guess
    what?

Yes, I have a horrible looking bald spot!!!!

I actually do have hair everywhere on my head, it is just really thin on
the top cranium part, but the sides and lower back are very thick, so the
    thin bald spot is noticeable.

As a result of my new discovery, I noticed that I now sort of feel depressed.
I don't have the same enthusiasm with my coworkers or friends any more.
I was a happier and much more cheerful person during those years of
refusing to look at my head in the mirror. So ya, my world is now upside
down because I am now "aware" of my bald spot.

Does anyone have any advice to cheer me up? I dunno if I wanna spend
a fortune on Rogaine or Propecia now that I'm in my 30s. I would much
rather cut my hair short. If I cut my hair short around the perimeter of
the thin bald spot area, do you think that will make it less noticeable?
I'm not ready to shave my head like Kojak just yet; I think I'll look like a
freak if I shave it completely bald.

    I'd appreciate any feedback.

I 'm not sure Rogaine or Propecia can grow your hair back , I thought it was good for " maintaining " and preventing future loss .

    Shorter is usually always better

Got any pics you might be willing to share

Sorry to hear. Yeah, that's the story for most of us. The misery of realizing you're losing your hair and the depression and anxiety and the shitty feeling that goes along with it and turns your life upside down.

I don't know why you think it's too late for you (because you're in your 30'). Some men have hair transplants in their 60's and even 70s and HTs are a major thing compared to just taking some medications.

You also think it costs a fortune to use meds. I don't know how a dollar a day or even less is considered a fortune. That's like $30 a month, man.

If I were you I'd try Minoxidil (Rogaine) right away. It's actually more effective on the area where you're losing hair (the top). If you're not too scared -like some guys are- of Fin side effects I'd give it a try too. You never know. They might work for and reverse the loss. There are cases where people get their hair back if the loss is limited to a small area.

You either continue living depressed or try something simple like using some meds. If I were you and the loss in only limited to the top I'd get a transplant in a heartbeat .

It's hard to tell what length of hair would work best for you without seeing photos. I am guessing you still have a fair bit of hair back there or else you would've felt the bald spot long ago.

Rogaine and Propecia can often do a lot for the crown, as well as preventing you from losing any more hair.
