    Default Losing hair!

Hello, just to share my boring story...
34 years old now. I first noticed my hair thinning about 10 years ago. It was only some light shedding but it seemed like a lot more were on my pillow in the morning that there should have been. I visited a hair clinic in my town around then who gave me one white bottle of 2% minoxidil. Didn't know what it was really but started using it. Gave me a terrible headache at first but I have been using it ever since. I then bought the 2% regaine then progressed on to the 5%. It seems to have all I have needed. I have lost some hair at the temples and a little at the back but my hair has been quite thick. I feel like I have been lucky holding onto it since my dad and his dad both went bald in their early twenties. That's all I have been using since then up till about 9 months ago. I seem to have a dramatic loss since then. I started on lansoprazole for reflux and I think that may have triggered something. It seem to go very thin weeks later. Especially at the crown and my hair line is disappearing. I'm not sure how coincidental this was. Since then I have been using Nizoral 2%, started 5% Spiro (which I don't think is doing anything), trying saw palmetto and I have recently ordered 'hair muck'. I am seriously considering finasteride but honestly frightened of any potential side effects (and the cost!)

    Thanks,

Hello. No. I still use minoxidil but I have gone on to a generic brand. The regaine has become very expensive in the uk.

can't you order through ebay or are you not allowed to bring it into the UK? Rogaine is getting cheaper and cheaper.

    Hi Fairly,

So have you been using Regaine for 10 years?

I have been using it for 7 years and haven't come across anyone who has used it as long as us.

5% Regaine worked for me brilliantly from mid 2004-mid 2010. From October last year my hair has thinned incredibly. Actually I seemed to have lost a shitload from November to February. Since February I started Proscar because I couldn't handle losing anymore hair at such a rapid rate. I'm not sure if Proscar is helping yet (I've been on it for 6 months) but things don't appear to be a lot worse in the past 6 months..

I haven't stopped using Regaine but it's almost definitely doing nothing for me anymore.

I think you could be in the same boat as me, we've built up a tolerance to it.

Just an update in case it helps anyone. I have cut down on my lansoprazole 30mg. A potent stomach acid inhibitor. Which is listed as hair loss as a side effect. I now take about a quarter of this a day. Plus I take a few 75mg ranitidine through the day to help my reflux. I doubled my minoxidil to double per day. Which has hair muck added to it. I still use Nizoral twice a week ish. My hair loss seems to have slowed right down again. I'm not sure what exactly has helped. I'm pretty sure I have some new growth too. It just looks a tiny bit thicker. Some slight recession but nothing major.
