    Default New York Recommendations

I am almost 60 years old but getting tiered of my gradual hair loss. It’s not horrific but it is noticeable and hey you only live once. So i am ready to make the move. I was hoping i could get 3 recommendations of only the BEST NY Physicians as i only have so many years to experiment, repair and restore. I would love to hear from you guys so I can finally take the plunge.

Most people will point you to the same 3 clinics in NY.
    Dr. Bernstein (NYC)
Dr. True and Dr. Dorin (NYC)
    Dr. Feller (Great Neck)

I believe Dr. Bernstein charges a $175 consult fee, True & Dorin $85, and Feller does a free consult.

One thing of note is that Dr. Feller shaves down the recipient area (many feel that this is an important part of the process), where as the others do not. This may be something for you to consider as far as concealing the procedure for the first few months after.

I actually have a procedure scheduled with Dr. Dorin in a few days.

I would definitely consult with all 3. Best of luck to you.

Thanks, I have seen all three names circulating. Is this your first procedure or are you going back for more work. I was wondering does it take months to actually be seen in public. In other words If I have a family wedding coming up how much in advance would I be safe to do a procedure, a month a year?
    good luck with your procedure

Thanks. This will be my second procedure. I had my first one in 1997 (not by one of these doctors).

Well, if you shave down, it may take a few months for you to be comfortable at an event such as a wedding, but this really depends on how much loss you have, and how you typically wear your hair.

If you go with a doctor that doesn't shave the recipient area, you may be comfortable at family events within a couple of weeks or so. This will also depend on a few factors such as the length of your hair (to conceal the donor scar and recipient area), and how fast you heal. I'm not sure if you have used concealers such as Toppik, Nanogen, and DermMatch, but you may want to look into those.

Frankly, I'd probably want to do it as far in advance as possible before an event like a wedding (but, that's just me).

Either way, your hair will typically look a bit thinner than before the HT for the first couple of months after surgery.

See these 2 links for info regarding shock loss after a transplant.

Shock loss or Reactive loss or Post surgery effluvium
