    Telling minaturization from regrowth.

Basically all I want to ask is in the topic - is there any good way of distinguishing miniaturizing hair from regrowth?

I do imagine that most of you just know your hairlines very well so that you can tell if there's new hair.
Well I'm only eighteen, always had have very thin hair and never had a perfect hairline. As my brother's hairline has already receded to something like NW2 when he was 21 I'm obiviously worried about myself.

I think my temples might be getting deeper, especially since it looks like my left temple is deeper than the right one, so I guess it's a sign that something is going on.
There are some short hairs on that left temple (easy to spot as I have pretty long hair), not super short, say a little more than an inch long.
There are some along the hairline too, but very very few and some more on my right temple but not as much as on the left temple.

Now if we could hold everything constant then I'd be sure it's balding, but in the last 6 months I changed my diet pretty dramatically to a relatively healthy one, started taking a multivitamin (never had).
Also stopped any masturbation (which equals no sexual activity anymore), no, not for my hair, just didn't feel like doing it anymore. Lost any urge within just a few weeks so don't think I'm doing some kind of a big sacrafice .

I think I will jump on propecia+minox anyways, especially that I couldn't be bothered even if I was to be sexually dysfunctional forever, but still would love if I could do without it.

Try saying that when you need a penile implant to have sex.

Lol I think you need to be really really unlucky to need a dick implant. If 2 million people are on propecia (probably more) I reckon 50,000-100k (Im way over estimating here) have permanent sides which is 5-10% which is risky but I'd take that.

I'm still in conflict with myself about whether or not to take it lol

Same here - when I heard that story about a penile implant... it totally put me off it... but the worst thing is the loss of sensation, nothing can bring sensation back... viagra can get you hard but when sensation is lost its lost - plus I hear when you up the dose to 3 - 5mg your in the 27% range for ED n' gyno.

I am thinking I will see how Histogen do in their 2nd round of trials first before I take the plunge - also PRP+ACELL looks like a better "preventative" measure than finasteride, Hitzig is trialing it in the UK this week at Harley Street Medical.

The way I see it, 1mg is more than enough (maybe even too much). If 1mg doesn't work, upping the dosage to 5mg is a bad idea. I'm amazed at what people dare to put their body through sometimes, despite knowing the increased likelihood of sides

Well not looking to have sex in my life really so I know what I'm saying haha.

But gyno/increased fat retention would be a concern.

                  Haha, not really.
You know for me it's pretty simple. I was never too interested in sex or girls at all. But I did discover masturbation to be pleasurable and was having some sexual thoughts (which supposedly is commong amongst asexual people).
I didn't really like having that need to masturbate, was just loosing time and focus, but given how most people think it's something very natural that virtually everybody does I never gave it much consideration.

Then I just thought let's screw it and try to do without it. After few failed attpemts I've finally managed to completely drop the habit meaning no urge and no sexual thoughts. A huge huge drop in spontaneous erections too.
I feel like I'm 12 again, I just couldn't care less (not that I ever did too much but still a big difference). :-)
Now the only remaining issue is nocturnal emissions, but I guess I won't get rid of that.

And so far it has been around 6 months so I guess the urge shouldn't suddenly go back as far as my mind does not want it, but you never know.

I think the biggest effect is probably psychological (no more dirty thoughts ).
I have no idea if it can bring about some health benefits. As everything we do it definetaly has some effect on something, but whether it's anything significant I don't know. There's barerly any research.

So I'm not trying to talk anyone into trying it, but if anyone is interested in trying then why not, definetaly an interesting thing to try, a psychological adventure :-)

Anyways the orginal question that I've posted still remains unanwsered.

To answer your question, it would be difficult to know with certainty whether you're regrowing as opposed to minaturising unless there is a major difference of volume on your head. Can you see your scalp through your hair? Are you receeding (although this may not be an indicator of MPB)? Other ways would be to determine whether your hair feels thicker as you run your hand through it. Otherwise it's difficult to tell.

May I ask you why you intend to keep or regrow your hair if you plan not to have sex? Usually people are only bothered about their hair loss because they feel it will hamper their ability to attract members of oposite sex.

Well we're talking really early stages of hairloss so there's not a significant enough number of those short hairs to tell a big difference in thickness or anything at all.
The fact that my hair has always been very thin doesn't help either.
Is miniaturized hair just thinner and thinner each time it grows or is it also limited in length?
So far it looks to me completely like my normal hair only that it's shorter.
Just don't want to end up loosing some hair that otherwise could have been kept alive.
I would go to a derm, but over here they are crazy. He would just look at my hair and probably tell me not to worry without even closely examining it. Most people don't even know what propecia/finasteride is here.
Somehow I feel like it's very common for people in their late teens/early 20s to loose hair here (eastern europe) always see a lot of people my age with some recession in their, never seen that much of it in the US, or maybe it's just the way they style their hair here. And there's very very few people with a truly juvenile hairline,

Damn, I even see women that have temples like mine sometimes

And as for people caring about hair only for sexual reasons - seriously? I think there's a lot of people that DO care about sex but have different reasons to want to keep their hair. It's a part of one's identity, the way I am.
The fact that I don't want to have sex does not mean it's not nice when people think you look good.
Do you wear a rolex, drive a nice car or wear designer all to attract opposite sex?
Well I guess to some extent people do but that's definetaly only a part of the story. Same with hair.

At least when I do loose most of it one day I won't be as paranoid, will just wear a wig :-).
My father is slowly approaching 50, already going grey, but still NW1 (just a little higher hairline than me) so there's always hope.
