My friend says I have "fine" hair, and its going to look thin... she's still convinced I'm not balding.. what do you guys think? Is it just my fine hair vs lighting?

..and if I am balding, should I change my routine? Fin, Rogaine, Laser?

grrr, im so stressed out, I cant even focus on my midterms

Even in that picture it's hard to tell because your hair is pretty short. Do you shed? Does MPB run in your fam? It's ridiculous to say you are balding only because you can see your scalp or have thin hair, especially under light. It's only normal. It's possible that you could be thinning but also that you will be this way for the next 30 years and never bald. If I had to guess I would say you are not balding. Plus you seem to have a good head shape and would probably look good bald. You are wasting too much time worrying this early. You need to see a specialist and make sure you are balding. Pictures are worthless.

I completely agree with CVAZBAR on this, he seems to be talking sense.

The previous picture I admit could suggest you have the early onset of mpb. but that last one is simply someone with a full head of hair being photographed under normal lighting conditions. I understand that people are trying to help you, but you need a expert opinion. Accept nothing else. With regards to your regime I'll say two things. You need to be certain you are treating something that actually exisits first. If by some chance you are unaffected you should not be using any therapy at al!!

Secondly, if you have started mpb, then I think your regime is fine. It's the same as mine and it's doing well for me. Propecia is the gold standard and the first place to start (I won't comment on the recent debate regarding side effects because enough people have already and I only have positive things to add). Minoxidil does work in my opinion. I started recession and light crown thinning at 17 / 18. After starting Minoxidil at 19, I still had a reasonable head of hair over ten years later (NW 3V). At 30, I added propecia and the lasercomb. There is plenty of negative feedback on the comb but nearly three years on and I think it's a good adjunct therapy. Get off the forum, get a proper diagnosis and try to stop stressing. Within the forseeable future there will be much better treatments (perhaps longer for the resolute "cure"). It's all to play for my friend!

    Good luck!

I do not shed, other than the normal amount. My dad and brother are bald. I saw a specialist (Dr. Leonard in MA) and said I had MPB and was NW2. Since then (2007) I've been on Propecia and Rogaine. My question is, if I do have MPB, will the Propecia and Rogaine help keep what I have? As long as I can maintain my hair at this stage, I'm confident about future treatments.

How can you say this guy will be totally bald in 10 yrs? From just looking at 1 pic??Proecia and stuff should hopefully slow the process down. I know stressing about it will do the fkin opposite......

Well if the specialist said you do have MPB, than you start the treatments. You won't lose it all in 4 yrs but will lose ground for sure. Propecia is the key. If it works, than you can potentially hold on to your hair for a long while but you need to always prepare and expect the worst. The reality is that you have to start accepting the fact that this will be a part of your life and you can't live stressing forever. You won't look bad if you do go bald and as you get older it will only blend in with your age. Let's hope something better comes along in the future because even if Propecia works, I wouldn't want to live my life taking that drug for decades. Hair does not make the man, your personality will. Good luck.

I think it was a mistake posting those first pictures. With short fine hair under direct light can be a little misleading. I examined my hair under the same light, and even the back of my head, where hair is resistant to balding, is equally thin.

Regardless I'm sticking with my treatments.. better safe then sorry.

Dude have you ever had longer hair?

You look like a perfect NW1 to me. A LOT of guys I know have a see-through scalp with really short hair and it completely disappears once they wear it a bit longer. It's clearly a matter of light/hair color and texture.
