    Default Pain after Hair transplant

I had a hair transplant 4 weeks ago. I am still experiencing a lot of pain and numbness and headaches. Anybody else dealt with this? How long before it goes away?

    Thanks

I don't remember the pain being too bad. But you need to know it's expected. You're probably feeling better now.

I expected pain, but not this intense for five weeks after the procedure. Perhaps, I did not have much extra skin on my scalp and it has been pulled so tight, it may take much longer to heal?

Have you addressed your concerns with your surgeon? I have had two transplants and would say that what you are describing sounds outside of the range of what should be expected for post-operative pain.

Did you have a large strip taken? (i.e. how many grafts were used for your surgery?)

Hang in there. Hopefully you will feel better very soon.

I had 1500 grafts from about a 1" strip. The surgeon said I did not have alot of give in my scalp so he could not take more. The donor area does not hurt and neither does the grafted area..it seems like my scalp is so tight and very sore in between the two areas. I am seeing the doctor next week...I am worried that the pain is persisting..I am taking extra strength tylenol everyday.

I spoke to my doctor. He explained that a small percentage of hair transplants cut motor nerves that would explain my prolonged pain. He said that it would heal in time.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Thanks for posting to let us know.

The tightness and numbness can be very uncomfortable. Reflecting back on my first surgery, I had that sensation for quite some time following the surgery. In fact, I didn't regain full sensation in my scalp for 8 months. I thought my head would never feel the same, but fortunately I was wrong.

Hang in there. I know how disconcerting it is. The nerves will regenerate in time.

Numbness for multiple months after the surgery is common as well.
