Dr. Ron Shapiro 2498 Grafts - 5995 Hairs
-
that is a great outcome and quite impressive. I am wondering how the number of grafts is determined. I notice they are usually odd numbers, this one is 2498 some are 1371 or 3198. So I guess my question is why did this guy get 2498 grafts as opposed to 2499 or 2497?
Do you think results like this are usually consistent, or is there ever that one guy that things just don't work for because of something uncharacteristic to most people?
thank you for sharing these, it is really really good to see what IS possible.

Hi Murphys Law,
Each tech keeps a log of each graft that is cut on a cutting sheet. At the end of the day, we add up all the sheets so we know exactly how many grafts are cut. This allows the doctor to custom cut blades to match the size of the grafts and know how many incisions to make.
This patient had:
461 - 1 hair grafts
1132 - 2 hair grafts
614 - 3 hair grafts
159 - 4 hair grafts
132 - 6 hair grafts (dfu - double follicular unit grafts)
so when you total the grafts, you get 2498 grafts, which equates to
5995 hairs.
I was stating on another forum that this patient has less than favorable hair charactistics for an ht. With dark, straight, slightly oily hair and fair skin, you have to be more careful in the planning and distributing the grafts. The use of dfu's in the central core also aids in density. This patient has above average hair to graft count ratio - a big plus in getting a great result.

thank you Janna for explaining that.

Great result for that many grafts.
Its nice to see follow up pictures for the patients.
Graft/hair count very important too imo.
Thanks
bm.
