    Propecia finasteride side effects

I have been using Propecia and now Finasteride for about 12 -15 years. I was one of the original users of Rogaine in MD from University of MD. I am 40 years old and have experienced NO sexual side effect and no side effects at all. I know several friends on the medications and no side effects. Rogaine is a difficult though. Your pillows are full of it and need to be replaced frequently and your hair (if you dye it) the alcohol in Rogaine strips the dye and even further dried the hair out. I have had the same hair line now for 20 years. I strated loosing hair bigtime around 20. I noticed No regrowth. But I have had no hair loss in 20 years on these medications and no side effects. Any questions just ask. Oh. Costco best price for monixidal. and if your over 35 your insurance might cover the finasteride. Mine does.

      Hey Mickie79,

Just curious --- since Propecia and Finasteride are the same thing, what did you mean when you said that you started using Propecia and then Finasteride? Did you switch to generic Finasteride?

Also, how do you manage to get your insurance to cover Finasteride? That's pretty sweet! :-)

By the way -- no sexual side effects for me either. In fact no side effects at all that I have noticed. None!

        Mickie79,

Glad to hear your hairloss has stabilized. The liquid form of minoxidil including the generic brands all contain alchohol (30%) and propylene glycol (50%) which are the inactive ingredients along with 20% purified water. It is the high concentration of the first two that can dry out one's hair and the mess on your pillow is from the oily minoxidil, the active ingredient.

Have you tried the new 5% foam product? It dries much much quicker without leaving that messy residue behind. Many guys I have talked with tell me it's much better than the liquid form but does cost more. And it's not loaded with alchohol.

I know what you're stating about one's health insurance paying for other forms of finasteride, primarily a prostrate drug called Proscar which many guys like myself cut four ways. You want to make sure your physician takes into account that you are taking this at a much lower doseage for treating your hairloss. You want your physician to know this before you get checked for your prostrate, PSA test, because the test results can be misleading if one is ingesting finasterdie without your doctor's knowledge. Usually the prostate test is done once the male reaches age 40. Your chart with your PCP as well as your specialist needs to be documented accordingly.

I had crazy regrowth in the temples and hairline with propecia. I'm talking about my childhood hairline. It actually started looking a little feminine once I got into my 30's. I think the sooner you get on it and the less severe your hair loss, the better the chance if regrowth in the front. If you're a young nw 2, you might just be able to bring it down a bit.

Opinions vary. I dont think its possible to have too much hair. A NW 0 at age 30 basically just makes you look unusually young for your age. I think the biggest downside to hair loss is just it makes you look older. There are NW 0 guys at 35 that could pass for 18 and guys that are 18 that look like they are 40 just because they are badly balding for their age. Everyone though has their own thoughts on that.

I've been taking finasteride for six months and have had substantial regrowth on the vertex (crown). With the exceptions of some regrowth above the temples, loss on the front continues but has slowed. No side effects to speak of. I should note that I take 5mgs./day for prostate.

Yes I have regrown hair at the hairline, not sure how long it took, I didn't even apply it in the correct way. I have quite sensitive so don't really rub it in much, I was surprised I got regrowth.
As for saying if your in your 30's or older the damage is done, I was in my late 30's before I used it.
