Question What are the odds of having shock loss from a hair transplant?

What are the real odds of experiencing shock loss after a hair transplant? My two biggest concerns is a visible donor scar and shock loss. Is there any accurate data concerning shock loss?

    Hey JB,

I'm unaware of any accurate clinical data that provides information on the odds of experiencing shock loss after a hair transplant.
It's important to note that in the vast majority of cases, any hair loss due to "shock" will return within a few months. However, if you are not prepared to deal with the possibility of this occurring then it is my suggestion that you consider moving on and not having the procedure.

Hair transplantation is real cosmetic surgery. Even though complications after hair transplant surgery are extremely rare, the possibility is still present. Shock loss is a common phenomenon that in some cases just can not be avoided. Shaving your head for surgery can help you cope with the potential of shock loss since you won’t see any of your native hair shedding after the procedure.

As far as complications occurring with the donor scar, today this is relatively rare, but scar stretchback can happen even under the best surgeon’s care.
All in all these issues can usually be effectively addressed, and most patients will come away feeling good about their decision to have hair transplant surgery if they are the right candidate for the procedure to begin with.

    Hope this helps!
