Default did anybody see this article on ABC news?

So I was always under the impresion that dht was the cause of hair loss, but according to this study, researchers have found the cause and will have it knocked out in less than 10 years. This sounds like good news to me.

It sounds good but I will believe it when I see it. I'd rather they worked on it and just come public with it once they find an effective cure. Recently I've seen so many headlines about 'possible baldness cure' which just give me false hope

That's kind of like saying, "They told me my uncle died because he smoked too much, but he actually died of lung cancer." They're not mutually exclusive explanations: his smoking caused the cancer, and the cancer was what killed him.

Likewise, it can be the case that (as suggested in the referenced news report) failure to produce normal progenitor cells is the cause of androgenetic alopecia, but DHT is what causes the body to stop producing those normal progenitor cells in the first place.

Then why do we have so many vaccines for innumerable diseases? Surely it's much more profitable to treat patients who contract those diseases then it is to prevent them. And how is it that, say, isotretinoin was developed when so many dermatologists and drug companies were profiting from their (mostly ineffective) acne treatments?
