    Default redness after HT

pretty pink scalp in the recipient area six weeks out.. and i generally heal very well.

i know redness is normal in the recipient area after a transplant.. Whats the typical/unusual pattern for it to return to normal and any tips on speeding it up.. also any tips on helping the donor scar heal and making it invisible. ie mederma..

    thanks!

Hey mate, Hope you are well!

Dont stress regards to Post op Redness.

Post-op redness will occur both in the recipient area and the donor area. The degree and length of time in which both areas will remain pink or red, will largely depend on the individual's skin tone. Redness in the recipient area occurs due to the presence of newly formed blood vessels and inflammation from the placement of the new grafts.

High dense placement will in turn result in high trauma to one given area - ie redness.

It will all calm down so dont worry.

Try Aloe vera gel and also distilled witch hazel - these will help soothe.

    Default Pretty in pink

I'm about 3 weeks out now and scalp color is fairly normal. I did notice last weekend, after being out in the sun for an hour or two with no hat on my scalp did get red. Perhaps it's sunburn?

I've been taking supplements to speed the healing process and so far i have healed quite well. I cant say for certain that the supplements are the cause, but i have had issues with slow healing in the past. My doctor has been impressed with the speed of my healing so far. I've been taking the following:

·*********Bromelain (500mg 2x daily) – used to reduce swelling, improve healing
·*********Gotu Kola (950mg 2x daily) – improves healing of the skin, reduces scarring (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/gotu-kola-000253.htm)
·*********Chlorella (3,000mg daily) – improves immune response and healing
·*********Beta Glucan (250mg daily) – improves immune response
·*********Arnica Montana (4 tablets 4x daily) – reduces swelling, bruising
    ·*********Vitamin C (500mg 2x daily) – improves healing
    ·*********PhosphatidylCholine (420mg 2x daily) – general health, healing
·*********MSM (2,000mg 2x daily) – healing, hair growth, *connective tissue repair
·*********BCAA Amino Acid Complex - healing
    *
    *Hope that helps. Good luck!

It's too early to be exposing your head to sun, especially for that long. Healing skin is hypersensitive to UV light and more likely to burn.
