Dr. Jeffrey Epstein / 2378 FUE Grafts / ACell MatriStem Technology

Dr. Epstein shown with his male patient 1 and 2 days after a hair transplant procedure of 2378 FUE grafts. The procedure also involved autocloning about 450 grafts plucked from the beard that were placed in the crown region using ACell MatriStem. ACell MatriStem, an exciting new development in regenerative technology, was used to help these hairs regrow better in the scalp.

Why did you use beard hairs? I though Jerry Cooley said that Scalp hairs were more effective?

We are currently conducting studies using plucked hairs as well as those obtained from FUE, seeing whether ACell improves hair regrowth.

For plucked hairs, because of their strength, I prefer to use beard hairs as they are more likely to include the follicular cells. For FUE grafts, scalp hairs are easier to harvest and of greater number, however beard hairs can be effective especially when there is a limit of scalp donor hairs.

Please realize that there is little data on the efficacy of ACell.
