Default Trying to understand the hair transplant protocol. Can U lend insight?

    Just curious..

    With a transplant...

No smoking two weeks before or after the surgery...? (not that I smoke)
No workouts at the gym two weeks after the surgery? Or is it a month?
No aspirin for a week before the surgery?

There is a chance if your hair is thinning and they transplant hair to the area...you

    A) have to shave the hair you have in that recipient area?

    B) Get a racing stripe in the back of your head where they take the hair to transplant?

    C) Need to sleep the first few days at a 45 degree angle?

    D) Takes about 8 months to begin to see hair grow back?

    E) Hair that you have thats thinning can fall out for good? or temporily?

Did I miss anything? other than you get to have hair at the end of this which is the goal...

We advise our patients not to smoke for at least 10 days following a procedure. FUE patients can resume regular light workouts 3 days following a procedure, and should wait a week and a half to two weeks before resuming heavy lifting. Strip patients will generally need to wait a bit longer before getting back to regular workouts. We ask that patients discontinue taking aspirin, herbs and multivitamins THREE weeks prior to their procedure.

    As for your other questions:

    A) Depending on the hair restoration surgeon you select, you should not necessarily have to shave your recipient region.

    B) If you elect to have a strip hair transplant, you will have a linear scar in the donor region. It is difficult to predict how a strip scar will heal- sometimes they are pencil thin but other times they will stretch and become quite noticeable even with surrounding hair. If you anticipate wanting to wear your hair short, you may want to consider the FUE method.

    C) Sleeping in a sitting position or at a 45 degree angle may be the most comfortable following a strip procedure and can reduce swelling following a transplant- though it is not necessary following an FUE procedure.

    D) The transplanted hair will begin to grow at 3 months. Not everyone will see noticeable growth at this point, however. Most patients will definitely see some growth by 8 months post-op, and should see final results around the 12 month mark.

    E) Shock loss is generally temporary but if the preexisting hair is thin and weak, it is possible that you will experience permanent loss.

    thank you CIT girl.

    I appreciate your reply.

I'm trying to gather the full scope of how an individuals life changes in the short term to achieve a long term improvement with a hair transplant.

    Your answers were very helpful.

Besides everyones normal concerns about results and costs etc...I have also been interested in hearing and seeing how one's life changes in the short term and for how long.

    Have a nice day.
