Rogaine vs Finasteride side effects

I am seeking advice about whether to use Minoxidil or Finasteride. I am not wild about the side effects of either — namely weight gain through water retention with Minoxidil or gynecomastia with Finasteride. Has anyone tried both? How widespread are these side effects?
