    Default fue donor area.

I wear a fade style haircut tapering down to a number one guard. Will my donor area grow back after the fues are extracted? I also want to know if there is any visible scaring where the fues are extracted from. The areas that will be extracted, are typically worn at a number one guard. thank you for any replies.

The grafts that are extracted and transplanted will not grow back which is why you want to make sure you go to a highly qualified physician who is careful to harvest evenly from throughout the entire donor region (if one small area is over-harvested, it could potentially result in a patchy appearance).

Regarding scarring, it is difficult to predict how different patients will heal following any type of surgical procedure. In some patients, FUE can leave small white dotting, known as hypopigmentation, in the donor area where follicles have been removed. Not all patient develop hypopigmentation- it seems to be more common in those with darker skin (though we have not seen African Americans develop it). If you were to develop hypopigmentation, it would most likely not be visible with hair shaven down to a one guard, and certainly not a two.

The way I see it, the worst-case scenario for FUE scarring will still look better than the best possible strip scar (you will need to maintain 1 1/2 to 2 inches of hair to conceal it a linear scar). So if you know you want to undergo hair restoration surgery and, keep your hair short, FUE certainly makes more sense. However, once you have any kind of hair restoration surgery, your donor area will never be as completely pristine as an untouched scalp- so if you are concerned about that, really think through whether you want to start down that path at all.
