Is it usual to go from very thick hair to very thin in 8 months

I'm 24. I've always had the thickest dense wavy hair which I was always happy about until about 8 months ago in August. I noticed after a haircut the hair felt a lot thinner and wouldn't have the same wave or texture anymore and I just chalked it down to the haircut but over the last few months it's got thinner and thinner all over to the point I can see my scalp in certain areas. It's gone so quick and I'm not sure what to do from here. I'm taking finasteride for a month and a half now but it's got worse. Has anyone else lost so much hair density in such a short space of time?

      Hi,

In many cases where patients commence using Finasteride they experience an initial shed, this may be what you are going through right now. Hang in there, visible results from Finasteride can take upto 6 months to appear so be sure to take pictures of your scalp every month for comparison purposes.

In addition to Finasteride you could use Minoxidil solution 5% every day, massaging it into your scalp. Also Nizoral shampoo about 2-3 times a week will help strengthen your hair.

I hope that clarifies things for you, I wish you all the best.

      Kindest regards

Sometimes guys when they keep their hair longer just don't realise that they are actually thinning until they cut their hair shorter than usual. I know this because I've been there myself. The reality can hit you hard. But sometimes we are our harshest critics, why don't you post some pictures of your scalp, it always helps in getting the best advice.

I've always kept it relatively same length it's just lost all wavy texture and looks like shit and doesn't hold anymore. I don't have many pics of before but I'll see if I can

I'll try going to a trichologist soon but can't do anything because of this virus right now. Did you have thyroid problems?
