Hairline is receded but no hair shedding?

Over the past 3 years I've noticed that my hairline has been changing shape going from a somewhat straight across hairline to now more of a wide u shape or rounded m shape. This happened to me when i was 15 and now im 18. I recently went to my dermatologist and he said that i had no thinning hair and i had nothing to worry about for a lot of years considering that most of my family members have a full head of hair including all 3 of my brothers. So i just wanna know can your hairline recede and thin without noticeably hairfall?
