Choosing which surgeon to go for in the UK

Hi there, I’m recently 41 and considering a transplant and I have no idea where to start researching. I’ve read a load of horror stories in Facebook groups and varying reviews, so it’s making research really difficult.

I’ve got really thick hair around the back and sides but thinning on top at a rate of knots.

Also I’ve read various reports of having to take propecia after surgery, is this a standard thing?

Any help or pointers on where to do research for UK based surgery would be great. Or if you have been through it, pls share you stories!

    Thanks

    Hi David,

You could start by ploughing through the many patient reviews on this site and other hair transplant forums.

You'll soon get a feel for what to expect.

I would also try to contact and if possible meet/speak with other patients of the clinics you narrow down as maybe being suited to you.

It is standard practice with many Docs to prescribe Propecia (1mg Finsteride) to patients post (and in some cases pre) surgery.

It does depend on whether you have native hair that is worth saving, in your brief description this does sound like the case. The Finasteride will slow down any future balding therefore delaying the need for a further transplant.

I actually have been taking it for 5 years and my hair is still holding strong following my own surgery. I actually only take it 3 days a week and have a couple of months off a year.

On a side note there are many UK guys who have traveled abroad, many for the first time, to acclaimed doctors worldwide and have had fantastic experiences.

If you consider that I can put you through to a few ex patients in the UK.

So firstly do your research, you'll find loads of patient stories online.

You could even start with my very own patient review below.

Im never going bald, No chance of me losing my hair, look at it, its like a Lions mane!, If I ever lose my hair Ill just do something about it, If I ever lose my hair, theres bound to be a pill you can take and itll just come back. But when I started to lose it, I started to lose it, the Lions Mane was

I've had a number of surgeries but only 1 in the UK, my last one which was at the Harley St Hair Clinic in The Uk. If you see my follow up video it explains in brief the importance of research. Do not let travel restrict you ( appreciate current climate travelling is limited ) as part of the decision making process boils down to extensive refresh and finding the right surgeon for you and YOUR needs and goals.

Hi guys, I wanted to share my most recent hair transplant experience here with you all. I underwent another hair transplant at The Harley St Hair Clinic (https://www.hshairclinic.co.uk) and I'm currently now nearing 20 moths post op after my session with assosiate IAHRS accepted memberDr. Albena Kovacheva (https://www
