Multiple Dermatologists Misdiagnosis? Telogen Effluvium vs Diffuse Pattern Baldness

    Hello all,

I had gone to a few different dermatologists to get a diagnosis on my hair shedding and inflammation . I have been told by all 3 that I have telogen effluvium as well as dermatitis (dandruff) and not male pattern baldness, as I don’t have hairloss specific to my temples and the crown of my head.

The thing is that telogen effluvium usually effects women, only like 5% of men actually have telogen effluvium, which goes away after a few months as hair loss is not permanent (it has been going on for close to a year for me). Add the fact that diffuse thinning is a less common version of male pattern baldness, which most dermatologists don’t know about, in which hairloss is all over the scalp at the same time, and does not grow back.

Their basis for this diagnosis is a hair pull test, asking me if there is hairloss in my family (which there is not, atleast from the age of 20), and simply looking at my head. All of which have been proven to be consistently inaccurate.

I really want to know thought if there is a way to distinguish for good if this is just telogen effluvium or male pattern baldness in the form if diffuse thinning. That way I can actually start taking finasteride or duasteride without hesitation, as at this point there is no clarification.
