Default Dr Lupanzula - 3,491 FUE

    Hi

I went through a hair transplant with Dr Lupanzula several months ago and wanted to share my experience. I remember myself cluelessly surfing the web, trying to figure out the credible info out of all the marketing material - like looking for a needle in a haystack. So, trying to pay it forward.

I met the doctor Monday, 6:30am, in his clinic. Soon after he welcomed me, we had a consultancy meeting before the operation. He patiently laid out my options and discussed the ‘mathematics’ of hair-transplant, the trade-off between transplanting hair in the crown area versus in the frontal area, the donor area density (he estimated 8,000 grafts), and potential future operations. This really helped us to make an educated decision I felt comfortable with – transplanting about 2,350 grafts in the crown area with a density of 30 grafts/cm^2, and around 1,150 grafts in the frontal area with a density of 45. I am in my 40s, so not looking for a teenage like hair.

The operation spanned two days – the first day was quite long, and I left around 5pm. On that day we completed a transplant of 2,126 grafts in the crown. The second day was shorter, and we did 1,365 grafts – crown and front. Total stats below. The doctor and team were quite professional throughout the process, the room was super clean. The local anesthesia shots were painful, yet bearable. Luckily, the pain killers kicked in nicely, so I was quite relaxed most of the operation.

    1 Hair 401
    2 Hairs 1049
    3 Hairs 1710
    4 Hairs 323
    5 Hairs 8
    Total – 3,491 grafts, (H/G = 2.56)

After the surgery I stayed for a week in Brussels and visited the doctor for daily shampoo sessions. I found these sessions to be very helpful to track my progress and address my concerns about the state of my grafts (I can get anxious sometimes…). I walked around with the bandana I got in the clinic for most of the week. In the weekend, I bought a soft French casket hat, but anyway most of the days I stayed in the hotel, relaxing, working remotely, and watching ‘Sopranos’ on my laptop (thinking whether HT would look good on Tony ).

Brussels might be the perfect place for a post HT recovery for me – the chances that someone walking in the street knows me are negligible. In fact, not many are walking in Brussels streets to begin with...

Overall - the decision to have an HT was not easy for me and I was quite anxious about the operation, but Dr. Lupanzula’s attentive and professional approach really put me at ease and made the experience as pleasant as possible. Thumbs up for the doctor, and fingers crossed for me and my new hair!

P.s. I am a private person, so not going to post any pics. Sorry.
